Ok I was offered to buy a Mcintosh 4 X 100watt rms at 4 ohm amplifier for $1k and also a TR Sound stream tarantula TR 500/4 4 X 100watt rms into 4 ohms, both at 12 volts.

My current setup

Pioneer DEH-P1Y CD player

Dynaudio MKII 2 way speakers with MW150 woofer and MD100 tweets

Audiocontrol 6XS active crossover

Stinger helix RCA's

2 Orion CO12 cobalt 225watt rms 12's

Powered off a Crossfire Class A/B 600watt rms monoblock

I don't know which one to choose from, The mcintosh is an exotic brand and would be loverly even just for wank factor but as its a mates in USA i will have to ship it here for $1K AUD Landed

Or the SS amp for $1k landed from australia

Thanks heaps
fury

lmao that didn't answer my question...in a way it did,

So worth a month wait for a mcintosh over a week for ss hey...me an impatient sod

after using a SS TR i wouldent go back to one, one of the most over rated amps i have used.

get the mac! awesome amps smile.gif

Macs reputation speaks for itself.
If you dont take it, hook me up.

now thats what i like to hear, what should i update next

i'v been thinking the mcintosh, after amp decision what would i do next. i know dynamat is next but after that
Fudd
upgrade the sub, then maybe a sub amp and HU and then speakers then amps again and then sub then sub amp and then speakers and HU and well it never ends haha
Pulse-R
in terms of price for gain in SQ, the H/U would be a good upgrade.

Otherwise the subs - do you like the subs? do you need 2, or would just one be enough (only 3dB quieter with only 1 sub = not much quieter, possibly a lot clearer bass).

blackfox: which McIntosh amp is it, MCC404M or MCC404? The former has two meters and the latter doesn't, but internally they're the same...I think.

Cheers,

Bon

Internally, yes. Price wise, the meter-ed one is an extra US$250!!

And Id be going the Mac good.gif

Just out of interest which TR amp(s) have you used, and for what were they used for (eg. splits, sub)?

the amp im talking about is the TR880/2, had it running my sub.
went from a Hertz something or other to DD m1 to the TR and the TR sounded like bum compared to the DD. then i went to a SS rubi 502 and it's better again.
and i run a SS ref 404 for the fronts.

i'd have the mac over the ss too!!! smile.gif esp for similar dollars. i've had mac gear in my home system and its -among- the best in the world, imo.

best of luck!

well i think i'v come to the conclusion, I'm going to go a mac over ss, i alwso figured out i can get the mac for $800 posted (if i go economy airmail and wait a couple more weeks) Well worth saving $200 so meh guess it'll have to do haha. Anyways

The subs are ok for right now, they go rather well, id rather have one sub like a JL 10W6 dual 2 ohm voice coil running off my crossfire 600watt rms @4ohms amp, So i think that might be the goer, what you think ?

Someone also told me an old Sound stream ss 10" sub would b wonderful for my dyns, i need to figure out my next move, if someone is selling second hand an awesome sub to match for sq please pm me as i'm always updating, i'm sure most of us always are haha, i do that with my home system, (oh btw also looking for some home dynaudio tweeters, d28/af or just d28 as i have both the d54af and d54 midranges to use) Thanks people
-DJ-
i just bought an exact 12. its the sub that replaced the reference ss-10/12. i will be using that with my dyns as front stage and in the right box w/the right crossover slopes i reckon i'll be able to have the two work quite nicely together.

i feel that spending huuuuuge $$$ on subs is silly in some ways because they reproduce such a small part of the audible spectrum. so long as they can provide good extension, transient response and will handle enough power for enthusiastic listening, i fell you'll do fine. the 10w6v2 is a fine sub too.

Mcintosh ANYTIME beat SS...
jas
it would be cool to have some McAmps in the car

haha made it sound like they have golden arches on them smile.gif
Blackfox
haha cool, thanks for that, its so true, but then without spending money on every section of the spectrum you won't have all of the parts sorta speak?
A single JL 10W6 v2 will go well in the correct box, right now with the two orions i have a 170lt box anyways so really i don't mind having something larger than "ther manufacture recommended", id rather mathematically do it right, sealed box forward facing, (we don't have to go into a discussion on the SQ of subs as there are other threads on that lol)

maybe i'll got a JL 500/1 or of i really want to splurg 1000/1 haha,
That will bring my system to
Dynaudio 2way MKII
Mcintosh amp
Audiocontrol xover
JL 10W6 V2
and perhaps 1000/1 wink.gif haha
Oh Fatmat and Dynamat i don't know the difference....except price of course
thats my next upgrade sound deadening, are there any car meets in brisbane for advice and meet other sq'ers
take care
peace out
Joe
