I notice a lot of people like to buy bits and pieces,
build up their collection over time,
and steadily build up a pile of boxes and parts, as they can afford it.
Wouldnt' it make more sense, (unless you find a freaking BARGAIN), to save that money?
When you can afford a part, tick it off, and put that money in a high-interest savings account,
with a penalty for withdrawing more than once a month.
Thus, when you finally do decide to get the whole system going/installed (say, 4 months down the line)
you'll have more money.
Simple concept, but it's one of those "Damn, i should have thought of that" things.
Just a thought, that could potentially make some of ya's a few bucks.
edit: and score, part of this new job is a laptop for the lighting setup in my booth, with wireless net. Freaking booyah.

The problem is (with me at least) I get these ideas that what I'm buying is a good thing at the time, and then something better comes along, so I upgrade.
My stereo was awesome when I started in CAASQ, but now it's 10x better.
I only got there through a procession of components and ideas.

im too much of an impulse buyer.
ive bought amps computers printers speakers cars tools books etc all just cause there were there without checking out if i could get it cheaper.
That said when i do want a bargain im sometimes a little embarrasing to be around. I had one sales man at a particular store who wouldnt serve mme any more because 3 times he accidentally sold to be below cost because I'd confused him so much and bargained him down so much.
Im also quite often sent in to do the negotiations when my company is buys cars.

I'm currently stockpiling components in the corner of my study.
When I look at each component and think of how much I saved when I purchased it either on here or on E-bay it far outways the return from my bank account interest. As a side not I begrudge paying silly money for cabling & wiring accessories (i.e. Stinger) so I buy it cheaper on E-bay when it comes up and I have saved heaps by doing so. ( i don't use e-bay stores for all you flamers

)
Obviously would be a different scenario if you were purchasing all brand spankers new from you're local retailer, then i would agree with you're idea totally, it makes perfect sense BUT most people impulse buy / need it now, so that can be a major hurdle when you're trying to save.
