Audio Guru Designer People - I need your help!
Can you guys come up with the best possible box dimensions for the following drivers

Mid
(I want to use a sealed enclosure) (750 hz to 2.5khz)

fs - 300hz
Qms - 7.75
Qes - 2.2

Mid-Bass
(I want to use a vented enclosure) (125 to 1khz)

fs - 35 hz
Qms - 6.7
Qes - 0.39
Qts - 0.37
Vas - 28.5 Litres

Bass
(I want to use a sealed enclosure) (as low as she'll go to 175hz

fs - 25
Qms - 3.7
Qes - 0.31
Qts - 0.29
Vas - 164 Litres

If you need any other specs let me know and i'll try get them for you.

Cheers,
Kirk

hmm, Your going to have to explain your design concept to me before I spend time modeling your design.
The demand of vented VS sealed is ...... a.... off centre in concept.
If you can expalin a little more about you reasons for enclosure choices it will be easier to help. And with respect to TS parms, more of them thanks.

is this for car or HT????

Same questions as above, and some more
  • Why 750Hz for the mid? Why not down to about 500? Its still far enough away from the Fs not to affect it.
  • Why vented for midbass and sealed for subbass?
  • Why is the sub only going down to 175Hz? Is that a typo?
Will need as many T/S specs as you can get. Those arent enough.

The "sub" bass (which is only a bass unit not a sub - the sub will come at a later date wink.gif) i only want to go as high as 175 not as low as 175.

its for hifi - I have posted this on planetaudio.com.au also - but i want to see the vairied responses. This is as much a practical thing as much as it is an experiment to see what differences in theory for box design there is between people.

I personally think the mid should be in a 1.2ltr enclosure, midbass 18ltrs port tuned to 35hz

the bass section I havent decided on yet come up with a few different sizes depending on whos theory i design my box by and which program i enter the data into.

My reasoning for having a ported enclosure for the mid bass and sealed for the bass is fairly simple. In my experinence I've nearly always found in most 3 ways that the bass section becomes too "flappy" & "fluffy" (cant think of a better way to explain it) do to the bass section being ported. I also find that in these designs that the mid/midbass is always sealed and nearly always lacks the kick in the cheast that I expect and want from a midbass driver - how ever in 2 ways (especially in high end book shelves) I've found that the midbass has the kick that I want due (IMO) to the generally ported enclosures and reasonably high Q. How ever these systems more often than not dont have the power to carry the bottom end of the mid bass off well enough.

By using a ported mid bass im trying to get that enjoyable sound that every one loves with plenty of volume in the 400-650 hz region
With the sealed bass im trying to get the nice bass that will extend fairly low with a fairly flat responce that will be complemented by the eventual implementation of a sub for the bottom end extension and the top end of the bass with be complemented by the overlap with the midbass driver

The mid doesnt play particularly low thats why im planning around that kind of a frequency responce. Im contemplating just using the mid as a complementry driver in conjunction with either an XT25 or some jaycar ribbon tweeters.

What other specs exatly do you want i'll try track em down - im having trouble getting the specs though sad.gif damn vifa drivers

The number of drivers concerns me.
The passive network will be complex with many nodes all of which introduce a level of distortion.

With respect to specs, you'll need all these and more. Full specs would help with your passive design too.
