Hey guys, I have a set of CDT classic 3- ways in my Rav4 & I am having some problems with the mid bass response.
These speakers sound awsome in the high to mid ranges & in the lower midbass region, but they are really lacking in midbass 'punch' like whenever a drum is struck. The lower end of the midbass plays very loud & low but whenever they play the 'punchy' frequencies, it sounds like the speaker is playing in free air.
I have sealed my doors & they have 4 layers of sound deadener on both the inner & outer panels with 1 layer on the plastic door skin.
They are running off an alpine MRV-T757 with the standard crossovers. the high pass for the 6.5" is 250hz & I have them low passed at 70hz.
The 6.5's are in the standard location in the lower inside corner of the door & the mid & tweeter are in the kick panels.
Does any one have any idea why this might be happening? Could it be the crossovers design?

Sub is crossed over at 70hz as well, I originally left a gap ie crossed sub over at 63hz but with the lack of midbass, it sounded awful.

low pass the mids at 50 - 63hz and hi-pass the sub at 80hz.

Thanks guys for your replies, I appreciate it.
fuddbutter, was your last post a typo, should I LP the sub at 50- 63hz & HP the mids at 80hz, & if so wouldn't this accentuate the problem? Not doubting you, I just dont see how that would work.

I would say he meant to LP the sub at 80 and HP the mids at 50-63. That bit of overlap should help increase the kick you want.

yeah have an overlap on the sub and mid
so mid plays down to 50odd Hz
and the sub to play up to 80hz (and have a sharp slope on it -18db or -24db)

Ok guys, thanks for all your help, I will try overlapping when I get home.
Cheers
