Greetings all.

My girlfriend has a VDO Dayton head unit, 55WX4 output, with JBL 6X9's in the rear, and Pioneer TSE1695 3-way 6.5" (16CM?) speakers...

She is complaining from a lack of mids and trebles... namely, the vocals tend to be missing a fair bit, and I believe she wants a bit more crispness from the top end.
We've looked at the Alpine SPS171A splits $299 from JB, and the Clarion SRS1626 splits for $149 from Autobarn. The Alpines sounded amazing, BUT unfortunately, we had to listen to them thru a $470 Kicker amp, with bass boosts, etc.; clearly not an indication of their true sound. The Clarions are fairly decent, but we're after opinions. She'd rather keep the front Pioneer's as I gave them to her as a gift rolleyes.gif , but I'm trying to convince her it's best she change it to achieve the sound she wants.

What would you folks recommend as a valid, budget option to achieve this sort of set-up? She likes a lot of bass, but also clarity in her mix. Listens to alot of pop and some house, and some rockier stuff like Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd.

Would you guys reccomend amp-ing the Pioneers, installing splits with tweeters mounted on A-Pillar, and amplifying, or throwing in a 10" or 12" sub in the boot, powered, with the JBL and Pioneers set to flat giving trebles and mids, with the bass being filled by the sub?

Thanks for any advice offered,

Cheers,

Joel

Hey Joel hows it goin bro!

Mate i rekon ur girlfriends car is definetly cryin out for a pair of splits up front.
However i rekon it would be a crime for you to buy a decent pair of splits and not give them the power they need to reach their full potential.

The setup i think you should look into would involve running a set of splits off the front two channels of a four channel amp, bridging the back two channells together to run a subwoofer, and then simply running your rear speakers of the head unit.

Good luck!

That's actually a great idea, I hadn't though of that...

I'm guessing in a liftback with a soft shell rear parcel shelf, an 8" or 10" sealed should give sufficient bass?

So, you reckon the clarion's or the alpines?

Thanks for your quick reply dude!
