Hi
I've heard of people using speakers by "rainbow" but i haven't heard anything about them. What are they like? the higher end ones that is. in the range of dyns and oz audio matrix. What music are they suited to? does anyone in melbourne source them? are they available to listen to anywhere?
cheers

Have a look at the rainbow website... http://www.rainbow-audio.de/

The distributer of Rainbow, Mobile Fidelity, don't list any Vic resellers at this stage on their website.

I've used the older CS-365 (both as a 3 way passive set, and 2 way active), the current Power Line splits, and heard the Power midbass with morel cdm-54 and Vanadium tweeter. I like the sound of the rainbows, but you'd have to audition them yourself to see if they suit your tastes:)
Shreknos
if you want to enjoy the rainbow sound, drop me a pm, my frontstage is predominantly rainbow, or will be in a couple of weks...
The Don
Let's put it in perspective (well I will anyway). Rainbow is a fresh contender in the sq scene. They're build a huge fan base at quite a rapid rate. I haven't heard one bad thing from people that have listened to them. I've listened to the profi vanadium range and they absolutely blew me away and that is why they will be my first preference smile.gif

Hell, I've even heard that people who buy the more budget minded range such as the power line, etc, are comparing them to much more expensive speakers out there!

Just take a look at how long they've been available for and then check out how many people have listed rainbow in their sigs - let the satisfied buyers and auditioning be the decider wink.gif

i've owned a rainbow front stage for 12-18 months now, and i still reckon the set i have (power + profi vanadium 3 ways) are amongst the best i have heard.

micka, did the front stage u listen to live in a WRX? thats the set i now own, along with almost the exact setup, except im running a pair of JVC amps for each side for the tweets and mid ranges. and a different sub to the XXX.

and if u thought they sounded good with the morel mid ranges, then the rainbow midrange will blow u away. best midrange i have heard.
micka
Yes it was in a wrx, and that xxx is sitting in my car now:)

The Don: I wouldn't call the Power Line CS275.27 a budget line... unless things have changed a fair bit they were retailing for about $1200
They've been around for a while... from the rainbow website

Whoa, I'm all over the place here tongue.gif On msn i just referred to nintendo as nineto! It's just one of those days!

I got confused - germanium line and sound line are the budget minded speakers smile.gif

When I say haven't been around for a while - they haven't been all that well known in the Australian market.

Rainbows are guaranteed to help you achieve sound stage glory.

Do a search, there is some pretty damn good info on rainbow on this forum
sweep77
thanks for that guys. i'll have to get around to listening to some.
HISPL
I've only heard a handful of Rainbow speakers but even teh entry level splits were damn impresive.

I remember Mo's WRX the front stage in that sounded pretty bloody good!

I'll rate them as high as anything else out there I have heard.

I think Freeway Car Audio in Malvern are Rainbow dealers.

The wholesaler seems good, I brought some new grilles from them and the service was good.

I have just fitted my 2 pairs of 4" mids plus tweeter in doors [2 per side] and they sound fantastic, however its hard top compare as I am only comparing them to the originals... a single 4" plus tweet.
I waiting to get the time to fit the 6.5" kickbasses [Profi] in the bottom of the doors. So far the sound has come up a treat, beautiful with out harshness and still a long way to go yet!
Rainbow are very pedantic about passive cross overs that are supplied, I have 4 crossovers per side, 1 each for the Kick bass, woofer, mid and tweeter.
lots of users in the states, try searching www.elitecaraudio.com

I now use the Rainbow Power Line CMX265 Kick ( replaces my Rainbow SLX265 Deluxe after the JL 300/4 blew and took the left channel splits with it) and I love them! There is certainly no loss of midbass with these!

can't have a rainbow thread and not have me reply tongue.gif

Here I am! smile.gif

Over time, I've heard a few different sets of high end splits. All have them have performed nicely. However, it's been Rainbow and Dynaudio speakers that have stood out to me as being a level above the rest.

Both impressed me so much that I honestly cannot give a clear opinion on which is nicer (plus I havent heard the dyn's in a while).

In fact I was offered a good deal to switch over from ARC and Rainbow in the past, and my condition was I'd only consider changing if it were to Dynaudio. I (very) seriously considered the option just for abit of a change, but it would have meant selling off both sets of my Rainbows, and my ARC amps and I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Plus beign a uni student, the emptiness of the wallet helped the decision as well.

So at the end or the day my two cents is that Rainbow build some first class products, and if you after some high quality speakers I think you really must have these on your shortlist.

Cool, so which models would be in the 1000-1500 price bracket? just 2 ways, not 3 ways.
Shreknos
if you have active capabilites, i wouls go platinum active, 2000 dollars for the woofers, and tweeters...

if not, the powers are nice too...

or, wait a few weeks for the new dyns, and get a set of esotar two ways for a grand...

alot of choice at that price point...

of course there are models below these, and you states 1500, but personally, id save a couple more weeks/months wotevsa and get one up...
micka
For $1000-1500 you could get the Profi Vanadium, Profi Vanadium Kick, Profi Vanadium Phase Plug, or any of the Profi Line (obviously you could also get the lower ranges also if their sound appealed to you most).

If that was my buget, I wouldn't even think of the Power Line CS 275.27, unless you're able to install them yourself and you already have all the needed tools. As deadening, fibreglassing, buying tools, etc quickly adds up in cost.

i went to buy some rainbows a couple of years ago, diddnt really impress me that much but then again im a fussy bastard and expect nothing but the best.
they could have come up ok with a bit o EQ'ing but i shoulnt need to do that.

oh i like your sig micka tongue.gif

hahaha, was searching for something and found that quote, I think it was from a post about 2-3 years ago, but still 100% relevant good.gif
muzzy66
Personally for that budget I would recommend three way kickbass models of either the Profi or Vanadium line (they sound very similar).

Platinum's will definately not fall into the $1,000 - $1,500 price point.

This is only if you can justify fitting three ways - if you can get them in properly then the results can be well worth it.

If you go with the two way models, then the Phase plug sets are great. A tad nicer midrange then the kickbass models, at the sacrifice of a touch of midbass.

And belive me, the difference in midbass is small (took an in detailed back to back test to pick it). With any two-way set I'd try to maintain as much midrange as possible - because this is often a limitation of drivers that are 6" or larger.

Rob if my car is ready to visit nationals I'll give you a listen. 3 years is a long time, both in memory and product development smile.gif
Shreknos
yeah rob, you are fussy....

and a bit lazy i might add, in regards to the whole eq thing... biggrin.gif

i personally coouldnt go past the soft texture that rainbow is known for

oh, and micka, come listen to my car, the rainbow sound is so different to anything else, some love it some dont,

they sound so soft, and smooth, while being so detailed,

i have found that alot of people have really bright cars, to bring out detail, i dont think thats how it should be, i believe a speaker can be soft and detaled, like RAM's car...

i believe a speaker can be soft and detailed,

I agree. The quality audio companies can do this, the not-so quality ones cannot. Seperates the wheat from the chaff.
ultim8DTM5
I think it would be fairly naive to believe that all Rainbow speakers sound a certain way or have certain characteristics - same goes for other brands.

The product range is expansive.

yup very fussy, but look at the results. wink.gif

as for the EQ thing i did do some changes last night, toned down the midrange slightly.
Shreknos
so, are you saying that they all sound totally different????

imo, most rainbow speakers have a softer sound...

as for your midrange rob, i think it was a bit in your face, great sound though...
muzzy66
I'll have to agree with Ultim8DTM on this one.

The Profi and Vanadium lines are very similar in sound, but in comparison the Power and Platinum lines have an entirely different style of sound altogether.
