CVBASS

n_16er
how easy is it to tell? what are the major signs?
I wonder how long before a thread pops up from someone burned from these fakes. EBAY=EVIL for car audio
bob
N 16er CVBASS has been burnt by the fakes I believe.
CVBASS
Indeed I have... Oh well you live n learn... 1 mistake I wont be making again... sad.gif
Hutch
It is a sad fact of life that those too lazy, or stupid, or commonly both, make their living by copying other successful products.

CVBASS, I would like to extend to you the chance to buy a set of real Dynaudios as soon as the new models are available, with only the difference between the RRP (less CAA discount of course) and what you have already spent on your fakes, to pay. Let me know by PM if you interested, I don't like to see people burn't by ebay.

^^^ Nice!

Number one reason why authorised distributors are the way to go.

You cant 'auction' for service like that

I say Well done Steve!! good.gif
CVBASS
Hutch, I am very grateful tha you are willing to give me this opportunity, I've tried to send a PM but it says your inbox is full.
Will try again in the next couple of days, thanks smile.gif
brady123
CV,
Send him an email, his PM box plays funny buggers like that.
~thematt~
Plus AFAIK PM's are disabled for all distributors on here to prevent soliciting.
Hutch
CVBASS, Email me on shut2616@bigpond.net.au

Rest of photos below, can't post too many at once.

I like the comments you left for the seller steve. Hope you get your refund. If you need some help tracking them down I can help. Business address phone numbers etc.

Strange thing to say I guess, but they are pretty convincing looking fakes. As in, if you didnt have the two side-by-side or werent used to seeing them a lot, they would be very deceiving (which is the point, I know).
alebonau
are ther any other brands out there that have been copied/fakes and selling out there ?

I knwo I read on hte focal site about counterfeiting of their speakers. nd their warnings

http://www.focal-fr.com/counterfeit.htm

makes me very unsure about buying car audio of that brand now.

does it worry that soem of these fakes might make there way into legitimate businesses retailling them after all they are quite hard to tell apart for the unsespecting unless lookign very carefully. good on you hutch for makign this known. Gives good reason ot stay away from ebay for this kind of stuff.
sifntuknew
Hutch you can reply to the ebay sellers reply, so you can show 2 negative views and really ram home that they are fake speakers.

Maybe even put a link into this thread?

Thanks for showing this. If anything i think this will increase genuine sales as people are now scared they will get fakes and go through the proper channels to get the real deal.

Its a shame it has come to this but i think it will be good for local distributors.
Louie
Indeed, thanks for this. It would be difficult for someone not familiar with Dyns to pick the fakes, they do seem to look similar without a close inspection or comparison. I don't know if it will increase the sales in Dyns, because real Dyns seem to be damn expensive, but at least people won't be wasting their money on fakes

Let's just hope that the fakers don't check this thread out and change the things that Hutch has listed to compare the real with the fake. That would make life difficult

just wondering, cant you get ebay to shut them down for selling conterfeit stuff because thats illegal worldwide i thought. Similar to piracy of movies/music??

they wont do anythign about it. know htere was a guy sellign a brand "Rotel digital" got nothing to do wiht Rotel products and ebay wouldnt do anythign about it. probably still selling on htere. perhaps this may be another case as clear its a rip off and tryign to pass of as the kosher brand. worth a shot tryign to get this stuff off the market. you'd think there'd be a fraud squad or somthing that would shut this guy down.
muzzy66
Maybe if there were any type of way to report it to some authorities?

Given the backing of the local distributer and Dynaudio themselves, i'm sure it would be possible to convince authorities / department of fair trading / whoever governs these things?

I know way to many people who would have gone right out and bought those speakers without even thinking, and would probably own them for years without ever realiseing they were fake.

On one side of it, I think anyone who knows Dynaudio should be knowledgable enough to realise the risks involved. On the other hand, I can't help but feel bad for the people who wasted hard earned moolah on expensive paperweights.

These so called 'dealers' are ripping people off and stealing business away from the 'real' dealers / distributers of these products, and imo they rightly deserve to be shut down, put out of business and be dealt a nice heavy fine so that they can pay for all the money they have rorted.

People like this exist because they want to make a buck, and care diddly squat about morals, so hitting their back pocket may just be the best way to make them think twice about taking the same risk in the future.

Buy from an authorised dealer and you'll never need to worry about it!

When you see something on Ebay, for half price think about it. If it looks too good to be true then it usually is!!!

Hey Steve, you should use cut up a strip of paper with (Chinaudio) written on it and stick it diagonally across the dynaudio logo on the box.

This is an excellent thread for telling if items are counterfeit.
I actually have put some Dynaudio 220 MKII Splits on ebay yesterday. I will be linking to this thread for peoples assurances that they are what they are. If any more photos are required by anyone please email me and i will get them asap for you.

Its sad that when people want to change systems and on sell their goods to recoup some hard earned money and to offer components so others can enjoy the SQ which they can produce. We are now limited in our means of selling because of some guy flogging off brand new fakes at the price i am hoping for my Genuine Slightly used speakers.

They are $400 opening bid $450 Buy it now.

MB Quart splits have a lot of fakes. I know because I bought a set very cheaply, and I emailed MB Quart in Germany seeking confirmation as to whether the speakeres were genuine or not. Very helpful, he let me know that my speakers were genuine, and gave me some telltale signs as to how to determine whether they are genuine or not.

Sadly, I deleted the email, after I sold the splits... sad.gif if I knew something like this was going to be posted up, I would have kept it and let you guys know.

MB Quart subs are safe though, fyi they are made by Rockford Fosgate in the USA and they don't know of any counterfeits going around.
Louie
Maybe you could get in contact with them again, and ask for the email, then let us know. It would be good to hear from a few brands to know what to look out for

Dynaudio themselves suggest dyns bought over the internet ie ebay are fakes, and even in some retail shops they have the potential to be fakes, only an authorised dynaudio dealer can guarantee the speakers are legitimate.

IMPORTANT NOTICE It has come to our attention that illegal counterfeit Dynaudio mobile loudspeaker products have been discovered. We urge customers to be aware of any Dynaudio product marketed on the internet or from unauthorized dealers in order to protect yourself from unscrupulous parties attempting to sell inferior counterfeits, especially online.
As always, we recommend that you purchase from an authorized Dynaudio dealer in order to ensure that you are acquiring an authentic Dynaudio loudspeaker product.
Dynaudio has already begun to take action against counterfeit products based on information obtained from information provided by customers as well as its own investigation. Any counterfeit product is an infringement upon Dynaudio's valuable intellectual properties and brand trademarks, but also cheats our valued customers, whose best interests we wish to protect. Please refer to the dealer locator for the nearest authorized Dynaudio retailer servicing your market.

In addition to ensuring that you will be receiving a genuine Dynaudio product, and not an illegal counterfeit, Dynaudio authorized dealers have experience, knowledge and understanding of the product which will ensure that you as the customer receives the proper product and installation for each and every application, and that the product will be installed to perform at optimum levels, while exhibiting the technical specifications and sound quality as guaranteed by an authentic Dynaudio product.

The new Dynaudio Esotec Automotive product range has already incorporated several visible and hidden safeguards to help fend off counterfeiters, but as always the best defense is to use judgment and know your source when considering any purchase.
Of course, only products sold through authorized Dynaudio dealers shall be covered under the manufacturer's warranty.

i have bought 3 sets of these from this seller in the last 6 months , the first set went into my car , then when the second arrived i noticed something different , different dustcap on the mids and cheap looking molded clear crossover covers , also no tweeter badges or mounting hardware was included other than a flushmount cup and angle mount , those of you who know these speakers will know they have phillips head screws for the terminals on the mids , the screws had fallen out and when i went to screw them back in there was no thread to screw them into , .

aesthetically the 19mm titanium tweeter looks a duller aluminium colour rather that the high shine quart tweeters are renowned for ,

for the record the 2nd and 3rd sets i installed into friends cars dont sound like mbquart
