Hello
Im thinking im going to try my hand at fibreglassing and making a set of pods for my parcel shelf
Should i take a mould of the metal shelf underneath and then make the pods sealed? or should i just vent them to the boot?
I dont have a sub yet but its on the list
Any ideas?
The speakers are Kenwood HQ-715 7x10"s (wouldnt have gotten them except i got em for $40 in as new condition)
Im doing this in a 1989 AE92 corolla, which sounds a little pointless but the main reason im doing it is for me to get experience making custom boxes etc before i buy a better car (most likely a BA Fairmont or XR6).
Thanks

I'd suggest making as much as you can with MDF (craftwood) then using the fibreglass for a final top coat, to do tricky corners, curves, details and such.
I would vent them to the boot because a speaker that size will want to move a lot of air, just keep them as separate as possible.
Would sound great with an amp. A headunit can't really provide enough power to make decent bass with them.

Yea, they make awsome bass as it is unless you push it too far (eg running out of amp power)
i think when i have the money ill build a new shelf, its already in a custom shelf but a bit of a rush job - need to buy some new tools to make it easier eg router, circular saw, jigsaw

you realise when you get a sub that the 7x10s and the sub are gunna clash something shockin

Even if i put the HPF on the 7x10s? then there would be no frequency overlap (kinda defeats the purpose of 7x10 but hey they were cheap)

With the 7x10s being vented into the boot, the air the subs move will push on the cone of the 7x10s, making them distort.

Bingo khay0s. if possible, i'd try and make a box that vents back into the cabin, not the boot. See if theres any more holes in the parcel shelf under the "trim".

Will do
Wouldn't you have the same problem with 6" etc?

Any speaker that vents into the boot will.

That would only happen if your sub is playing in the boot.
You'll get a nicer SQ sound, and less boot rattles, if your sub plays into the cabin.
There's no reason it has to be in the boot. My box is in the boot, with the subs on the front of the box facing forward (behind the back fold-down seats).

in a lot of cases its also quieter, and doesnt mean itll sound better.
best spot ive found for a lot of cars is rear corner firing angled forward at the opposite wheel arch, really really hides the position of the sub, bringing the sound stage forward, making it a really ideal sq position. plays decent loud in that spot too.
