Hi guys,

I recently replaced my old car radio with a new. The sound quanlity of new radio much better than my old one. But when the engine is on, FM, CD or mp3 all sounds "perfect", but when the engine is off, I can hear slight noise from the speaker after one song finish and before next song start. If I turn the volume down to 1 or 2, I also can hear the noise.

I didn't modify any wire or cable during the installation, I just bought a harness and plugined in, that's it.

Although the noise is bearable. But if I can get rid of it would be fantastic.

Can anybody help me on this?

Tks mate, The car is 1994 Ford falcon EF, radio I bought from Ebay
same as this one here:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BRAND-NEW-CAR-MP3-W...1QQcmdZViewItem

The harness I bought from Supercheap Auto is design for FORD Falcon and standard radio ,its instruction said for Falcon 1995 or later model, my car is 1994,but I can still plugin in.

one head of this harness has two plugs, which plug into the radio(ISO Standard), the other head has two socket(12PIN and 8PIN), cables from my car has 3 plugs(12PIN,8pin and 1pin), I plugin the 12PIN and 8PIn into the harness and the radio working fine. but I can't find any place can put the 1PiN plug in(it's not the antenna cable).

So, I am just thinking, maybe the one otiose cable cause this problem?

unfortunately the the noise will be coming from the very poor quality electrics in this headunit, i installed on of these units in a car for a mate a month or so ago, they are very noisy.
trism
yeah x2 its the shi.t headunit......
20Hurtz
don't use the factory ground. make your own ground from the headunit to the chasis this will most likley help

Do you mean the HU is no good?
Well, is anything I can do, the HU can't be refound BTW.

Find a solid point on the chasis. Sand back the paint. take a cable from the back of the head unit to this point and connect with a direct metal to metal contact. Paint over it and to ensure that there will be no corrosion. There is a tute in the section on what is a good ground. Have a read through that for a more in depth tute.

Tks Tick, I'll try. And BTW, do you think a radio noise filter can help?
20Hurtz
i've never come across a situation where it has made much of a difference.
bmerigan
A noise filter won't help.

They block outside noise from getting to the radio - that's not what's causing your problem because you get it when the radio's off.

It's just the electronics inside the headunit aren't top notch. You either put up with it, or buy a better headunit.
njp
Sounds like it's laser tracking noise. Cheap noisy components. You can't expect good quality components inside a headunit from china for less than $100.
HBD
To think, for only around $100 more you could've got a recognised brand from an authorised dealer and you would've had a warranty and a decent head unit.
