Hey all,

I am considering to spend approx. 1k - 1.2k to get an amp + 4" speaker

I am now considering some alpine hu (500 approx.) + Focal 100KP - K2 Power 4" Two-Way Component System ($599 rrp).

What do you guys think? Any other recommendations for speakers?

One thing though, at the first stage, I wll jsut run the speaker off the h/u, won't install the amp for another month or two (due to the obvious $$ problem) . Will the h/u be good enough to push for the speaker? (at least temporarily)

What are the best places to get the speakers + amps in Canberra? rofl.gif

That's a daihatsu sirion. The factory speaker's 4", don't think i can put anything bigger than that at the same place. Yeah.. I was worrying abt the mid base too.

The other complication's that it has one of those built in cd-player, which makes the installation again more complicated....

i can reccomend alpine type s 4".....with an amp powering them i would assume they would go well as ive only heard them run off a deck

they had alot more punch than i expected

where is this 4" factory speaker located? dash, doors?

Making slight modifications to fit a 6" driver into the doors, is definitely the best way to go...

That way you can hear frequencies 80hz and up
rather than 200hz and up with a 4" mid

hmm,

somehow I don't really like the japanese brands for speakers...... but I don't really mean that they are not good, just personal preferences.

the 4" speaker's at dash, so you reckon there will be absolutely no mid base out of it?? sad.gif

pretyt much none. if its a good speaker and u liek deaden behind the dash its possible to get some but not much. withotu modifying teh door this is likley to be a short fall of the car. is there room behind the kick panesl for maybe a 6"

despite dragging sound stage to the back. having large drivers in the rear like 6.5's or 6x9's will give u midbass albeit comnig from the rear.

i think before you judge a speaker by the country it was made in u shoudl listen to it. to my knowledge boston are now built in china or somthing. yet they are regarded as audiophile quality.

perhaps low passing them at liek 500hz will stop the directionality some what.

Just checked.. not really room for a 6" at the kicks panel ... nea.gif

not really just judging based on countries... it's just that so far I haven't yet found a pair to my likings, listened to quite a few fo them

I've also used Boston Pros 6" in my previous car. I loved them! but just wanna try something different this time.. and of course because the car's now differnet.. and much smaller..... rofl.gif

i'm a die hard danish speaker dynaudio fan biggrin.gif give them a go for sure, or peerless they come out with a 5" set of component splits aswel
2LOUD2OLD
as far as 4" splits, i run Focal 100V2, sound great except for the lack of midbass, however, I have had enough and plan on actually upgrading to 6.5" in the hopefully near future, which will of course require modifications. If it is possible to do the mods i suggest you do them, else get the 4" and try a larger speaker in the back, on parcel shelf or something to at least get some midbass
