ive kinda lost track of what has been released in the last year or 2.

with alpine, the 9815 and a 9835 were great decks, yet teh 9855R was regarded by some as tacky, not worth it. i recently had a play with the 9855R and didnt liek the glide touch(like others have found) i understand there is the RUX and PXA 701 combo that can be used with anything with a optical out.

and ive also looked at the HX D2.

is there any othter units out there that are current on the market? or maybe a year or so old( i love 2nd hand)

i currently have a 9815. was wondering if there is any worth while upgrade. the rux pxa isnt tempting as i dont have optical out and yes i can use rca out. but then its not using it to full potential.

the current line of alpine decks seems that the top deck is still last years 9855R and the bottom spec DVD player doesnt have bass engine pro. like on a recent thread this dvd deck plus the 701 seems like a decent thing but rather pricey.

also considered the pioneer stuff. but have been told alot of the decks introduce noise when u use any part of its eq x/o features.(has this been sorted out in the current line up?)

ive followed along a little but basically after some raw info. whats good and whats not.

PXA can be used with AI-Net. You don't need to have optical.
trism
^^ interesting that.... might need a look into it...
Poisoner
just saw your sig sir nemesis. see you have a 7998R, that is somthing i also thought of.

going via ai-net like rca is an analog signal tho right using the 9815's inferior DAC???? not that it is bad. just thought to get most of a 701 ud use optical.
~thematt~
Using the Ai-Net on the H701 is analog, and is quite noticeably noisy compared to the Digital input. Playing the radio and DVD's through the H701, all signals are sent Analog, whilst only CDs are sent through the optical.

Off the top of my head, here are some SQ units.
Alpine - 7990/7909/9965/7998/Any optical out plus H701
Pioneer - ODR/Carazella/P90/P9/P80
McIntosh MX406, Denon DCT-1,
Eclipse - 8061/8053/7000 and the ECD510
Kenwood KCD01, Sony has one too (around 4k retail) cant remember the name,
Clarion HXD2, HXD1, 9255.
Panasonic TX5500W
Nakamichi CD700
Rockford RF8250

All I can remember at the moment.

Ive found the Pioneer EQ on the standard lines are $hite, but the P80 Ive listened to didnt have that problem. Maybe its just the jazzy decks, and not the SQ ones...?

looks flashy, this reminds me of a denon HU. i think.

another question, what can do 8 channel processing other than the HXd2. want to possibly run 3way active front plus sub.

the matt. cheers ill get googleing later on 2night and have a look at what u have shown me.
~Spyne~
pxa units can do 8 (or more) channel processing
Poisoner
ok so alpine and the clarion? anything else? i really just wanna see whats out there. yes i wanna be different, but if i go too far i have no one else as experienced and i have to pave the way. this too is good but normally harder and more expensive. tongue.gif
heimerich
why don't you try denon / nak / sound monitor / mcintosh and use Behringer / DBX / BSS processor... should sound MUCH MUCH MUCH better than any car processor in the market...
mad89
hmm... on a similar note with this thread...

hows the 9835 for SQ? ive been reading thru some threads, and it seems the 9835 is better than like the 9855R in terms of build quality etc...

was thinking if u went for a 9835 (if i find one tongue.gif ) then i could always get a PXA + RUX later down the track...

speaking of the 9835, and bass engine pro, whats all the frequency range etc? i cant realy find any specs on it... unsure.gif

hmm... maybe i should start my own thread... laugh.gif

^^^^ He is using a 9815 which is exactly the same as the 9835 except the 9835 has the Biolite display.
Poisoner
doesnt the 9835 and 9855 have an external DC DC converter? damn i wish i had biolite.

i checked out the specs of the HX D2 which i thought was rather lovely.

the eclipse seems to be fairly similar to the Alpine bass engine pro specs. albeit perhaps a little nicer(read SQ) circutry. so IMO i will yield no tuning benifit in swaping to an eclipse. seems the best option is for me to get a PXA 700 or 701. but my hu doesnt have optical out and someone said ai-net can be noisy? hmmmm.

now i think of it, any one got a tech sheet on the blau bremen deck?
Poisoner
ok just comparing pioneer p90 combo and the alpine 701 combo.

im talkin retail prices. pioneer is asking 2,999 and 1,999 for there combo so a total of 5k.

alpine is asking 899 and 499. now i understand with teh alpine i also have to add a actual cd unit to this. but i could get a whole lot out of the change if i went alpine vs pioneer

then there is the HX D2. albeit not as tempting as the alpine becasue of the simple display and no mp3 etc. mp3 is a curse to sq but tis what i listen to in everyday driving. they retail for $2,099

damn this is looking expensive. but im not sure i can justify what pioneer is asking.

BTW Pioneer does 8channel out. if anyone wanted to kno. so its HXD2, P90 combo or 700/1 combo that will do 3way active plus sub.

lookin at mc intosh and nak they seem to be excelent units but require either rca level eq's or to out via digital and use a processor like 701 so not really enough tunability. as for that panasonic deck HA! rediculous.
~thematt~
The P90 is beautiful. And you can get them from a good friendly pioneer dealer for a lot less then retail.

Also, HISPL is selling is P9 combo for 2.2k. Used for like 5 minutes....
