Just wondering if anyone else has the combination of K3Ps with a Boston G512 sub

Do they blend together well? - Is that ever an issue? (bit of a noob)

What amps are you using? - running passive or active?

Just for the record, my sub is dual voice coil so its 2 or 8 ohms and I listen to Rock Pop Dance Bass&Drums Flamenco Classical - whatever sounds good at the time
trism
sounds like a good combo...

with the K3Ps you will be able to blend the midbass and subass together....
Powerband
Cheers thanks for that

Now I'm deciding on an amp for the G5

Because its a dual vc I might have trouble if I ever go crazy and add another G5

I noticed JL have a monoblock thats 1000W regardless of ohmage. Something like that would be a good choice I think but what other brands have this capability? (Silver doesn't go with Focal amps)
trism
the alpine pdx mono is 1000wrms at 1 2 and 4 ohms....

A PDX @ 1ohm......no thanks.

^^ agreed, trism what you takling bout boy tongue.gif

JBL crown

do'nt those jl have the option of coming in chrome, shadow or black?
Shreknos
blending can be difficult, the key though is a good midbass, the midbass will decide the soud of your kick drums, the sub will just fill it out...

An Alpine amp at 1 ohm...thats funny.

Probably too much power for the G5 anyway. Its only rated at 450Wrms remember? Would be a nice choice if you did decide to add the 2nd sub.

Some amp options:
Focal FP1.800 $949
Audio System F2-190 $499
Boston GT22 $699
Treo SSXD750.1 $1250

But anyway 1000w probably is too much for one G5

Thanks for the suggestions

Another thing I looked up is the Rainbow mono amp. Can go 1ohm and looks similar to the Focal amps
Powerband
I'm still looking for an amp regardles of what subs I use

I've asked questions about putting 8" subs in the doors but if I can figure a way of installing the G5/s that doesn't interfere with my work gear I'll go with that.

I'm using Focal amps for the front but I don't think the Focal mono would drive two G5s. (if I decide to go that way)

The Alpine PDX is a good suggestion but the Rainbow mono amp has also caught my attention. It's 730w @ 2ohm and 1000w @ 1 ohm and has a RRP of $940. So it fits the bill in every way.

But... is it good at 1ohm?

Does anyone have experience with them?

cheers

Also consider the DLS A6 http://www.dls.se/english/fstark/a6n.htm . Picked mine up brand new for NZ$1200 so should be round the same price as the Rainbow. Apparently it's stable down to 0.66ohm and note the ratings are at 13.8v and underrated slightly (I hear).

Thanks for the suggestions guys but you know what? For various reasons I’m probably gonna go with a Boston GT-28 like I was going to in the first place.

If I put subs up front I realised I probably want stereo so I need a 2ch amp. Also I decided to keep the GT-42, it makes the K2Ps sound too bright but bridged it makes the mid-bass drivers rock. So when you’re on a good thing – stick to it. And the two Bostons should look good mixed with two Focal amps.

I made up a list of amps to compare and I decided I like the Zapco C2K-4KW but there's just something about the 28 thats a whole lot more appealing

Dare I suggest Sinfoni? The latest Incar (with 300C on the cover) has a review on the AMPlitude 150.2x complete with benchtests by Newport Test Labs;

2x165wrms @ 4ohm
2x315wrms @ 2ohm
1x641wrms @ 4ohm bridge
1x930wrms @ 2ohm bridge

RRP$1,790.00

If anyone would like the article send me a PM.

A very valid, and important factor to consider.

If your midbass response is poor, then your subbass won't seem to sound right no matter how great your sub is.
Powerband
I'll have a look at the Sinfoni range - Its good to hear about brands

DD, Yeah I haven't got round to thoroughly checking them out - I don't know why

Blending
I think my midbass sounds sweet but I'm expecting the G5 to be more gutsy
However, I read somewhere recently that mixing brands between mid-bass and midrange is usually difficult but not such an issue between mid-bass and sub

I've been considering 8" or 11" Focal subs for various reasons but I want to give the G5 a chance before I give up on it. I've had it several months now and still haven't heard it off decent power! Sub amps are expensive!

My focus now is on finding an amp that will suit 2 small subs in stereo or a 12" when bridged

I came to the conclusion that the Boston GT-28 is it but Juls reckons the Focal subs are a bit power hungry (he has them) and suggests 2x600rms for two 11" Poly subs

The 11" are 2ohm but the 8" are 4ohm. If the 8" came in 2ohm the GT-28 would be perfect
At 2ohms they are 2x350w at 12v and 2x450 at 14v
Powerband
I’ve had a look at the Sinfoni and Digital Designs and I might be interested in the DDSS1. Being quite small and not too expensive I could have two - in the long run

The appearance of the Sinfoni is too nice for my bus and also it looks too expensive!
EDIT: - What am I talking about? just read the info again, yeah $1790 is expensive for a 2x150, over a grand more than the FP2.150 but the specs do look good

Also - one of the problems I foresee is I know what the GT-42 sounds like but if I change brands, would I still like the sound? (Please note, I want the sub and mid-bass amps to be of the same breed)

Enter the RF debate – Even I can hear the difference between the Focal and Boston amps. The way I see the RF tests, it’s like getting two artists to paint a picture of the same scene, then get a third artist (the EQ) to touch them up to look the same. Then you have to stand at a distance and say which is which. (But you’re not allowed too look too close)
Hang-on, is that something that's been said before?

My conclusions so far are the Alpine, DD, Soundstream or stick with Boston
But no matter what, money is a problem, ie – see sig

EDIT: You can add Audio Systems to that shortlist
But hey Brady123, on the website for the F2>190 it goes 1x320 Watt RMS @4ohms | 1x520 Watt RMS @4ohms SUBWOOFER |

Is that a typo? I would have thought its 1x520 @ 2ohms…??!!

Treo - probably a nice amp but those graphics are too bold for my liking

GT-22? - I’ve thought about the GT-24 I think 650w would be real nice for the G5 but for a bit more money the 28 is more versatile
Luke352
I don't think it is a typo as I have 2 Audiosystem amps and they are alot more power capable when put in Mono mode. I'm not sure but you might fint the f2>190 isnt stable at 2 ohm. I know my f2>500's can only drive a sub at 2 ohm bridged, there not meant to be run in fullrange at 2ohm bridged, if any of that made sense.

I think you are right about the typo on the Audio System. And listen to the Treo amps before you decide on them, especially if its just aesthetics that you dont like! smile.gif

Haven’t been online for a couple of days, well something has come up. I was on the verge of making a decision and I get my tax assessment

I owe money to the tax man and its due before Christmas. I don’t earn much money around Christmas – New Year so the amp will have to wait till its all over, which is usually about half way through February.

Thank-you to all those who have made suggestions,

Cheers

For what it's worth, I am using Boston G510 sub with Rainbow Profi Vanadium 3-way. Boston G5 has very good upper bass range so blend in very well with midbass woofer. Since you intend to use G512, your set-up should have much better low end impact than my set-up which is slightly lacking in low end extension.
