Tried Searching but couldnt find much on the topic of, seperate amps to run tweeters only.

I recently upgraded front stage to DDW6.5 splits & Eclipse EA4000 amp.
I want to run as much power to my midbass as possible and i am thinking of using my old RF 200a4 amp to power just the DD tweeters.
This means i can feed my Midbass speakers 150Wrms each side from the Eclipse amp, and the tweeters up to 100Wrms each side. Whilst also allowing me to run Front stage semi active and allow me to control the tweeter levels better, which i need as my tweets are too bright even on -3db on passive.

I have been told that it will not produce "Clean" enough power for the tweeter and hence it will diminish my system's SQ. The RF 200a4 gives 100wrms x 2 @ 4ohm wich will be plenty of power for the tweets, but will it sound good?

Anyone else running a seperate amp for their tweeters? If so how do you like it?

Help me out coz i am ready to install the amp agin and give it a try.

I run my tweeters of a Phass AP 4.65. I like it, however my tuning skills leave alot to be desired. 100wrms is way overkill for tweeters (excluding monsters like Supremos) so I wouldn't worry about that.

Hook it up and have a listen. Let your ears decide.

i'v got 100watt rms through the dynaudios, i love the head room, extremely low distortion, the amp doesn't get hot at all because its not being driven as hard, different amplifiers produce different sounds, test it and let your ears decide smile.gif

sounds like a great idea. im planning to do a similar. thing, just becare ful as 100wrms isnto tiny 1" tweets is alot of power. keep gains low. will u be still using the passive crossover to HP the tweets? or does ur amp or HU facilitate an electronic HP up around 3-4khz?

i plan to run around 100-120wrms into each mid and into each tweeter. no passives as my 9815 HU can do this all at rca level...
