i want to upgrade my Sub amp, i listen to R&B, techno/dance and im after SQL, will upgrade front stage and HU next year
i feel the re xxx can use more/clean power
what im currtely considering is Audison VRX1.500 or the Tru tech Sledge Hammer
i can pick up a VRX1.500 for about $1700.00 new

i would pick the sledge but have concerns about providing enough power to it, please correct me if im wrong

PM Mr bob as I believe that he has used both. I don't think you'd notice the difference between either to be honest. I'm using the VRx at the moment and it does very well and would be more than most people would want in a SQ or SQL setup. I think Mr Bob is also selling his tru hammer if you wanted it's baby brother. I wouldn't think that current would be too much of an issue so long as your battery and cabling is up to the job. My VRx is doing good things on 0 gauge, so I imagine that the sledge hammer would be similar. They are very inefficient

Maybe read through this thread. It may help make your decision. I'd look specifically to MR Bob's comments.

It's the only amp I know of that will make 4000W+ on 12V, with over 86$ efficiency.
To quote "Mobile Dynamics":
"The Z1 is absolutely the best D class amplifier we have ever had the priviledge to measure. Its power supply's topology, management, component count and quality are inspiring."

Who's this Mr_Bob guy?
I've used both the VRx1.500 and Tru Tech Hammer,
i've also used a PG Xenon1200.1
the VRx and Tru sounded similar IMO,
At 1 ohm the VRx got pretty hot even at moderate levels.
The tru was unphased it just sat there, begging for more.
The x1200.1 Class D sounded average, bass was not as smooth, the amp's fan frequently fired up and was quite noisy.
I've used other Class D amps and i'm not keen on them, even for subbass.
They are more efficient until the amp starts to clip, then both types will draw silly amounts of current.
PM me if you want more info,
My Hammer has been sold, i received a deposit today, so i'm not trying to sell you anything.

The VRx whilst a great amp are in fact an evolving design that was launched some 7 to 8 years ago.
That said there are sill few that rival the overall SQ of them as many members here will testify.
VRx is in fact due for an up grade some time in 2007 and I believe the replacement series VRx is something very special indeed.
But whats new in the short term?
Due for release very shortly will be the new LRx 1.2k which will offer something a little different, D Class that offers true power but with absolute sound quality. They will retail for around $2089 and will be strappable with 4 opperator preselect programs which are controlled from the drivers seat.
May be these new LRx are worth considering and waiting to see before getting something that may be out classed and over priced in the near future.

Hey Phil, I've seen this spec sheet before and wanted to ask you, the one you have highlighted in red.... Isn't it getting 17.5volts? not 12.5, for that WRMS figure?
:EDIT:
Sorry, I see I've made a mistake, I thought you were refering to the Z2... but Its the Z1 your refering to... WOW, that thing spanks!!!

I've read on a couple forums that people who have bought the new LRX series think it is in every way comparable to the outgoing VRX for SQ etc... so the new VRX should be something special

You are correct in what you say, I have been reliably informed that the new VRx will be very special indeed with the likely addition of extra models to the range.
The new LRx are indeed whipping the proverbial bum of the current VRx in many ways, they deliver incredible power and sound quality, how ever VRx still offers features that can only be found in VRx.
The new LRx D class amps are on order and only a very few will initially hit the country and currently the entire initial order looks like it is pre sold -the orders are just stacking up.
There is one of the new amps in the Australia which was bought in as a sample for dealer testing and publicity, it was later sold through FHRX after being extensively tested and getting the thumbs up from all who reviewed it, I understand the new owner has a smile he just can’t get off his face.
But for those who like to dream and want the VERY BEST I can tell you that there is a sub amp range being released in the THESIS line, now that will be VERY SPECIAL !

I've heard The Ticks car, and can confirm without reservation that his sub-bass sounds fantastic.
Deep, well controlled, and extremely smooth.
I'm not sure how much of that is owed to the VRx, and how much is owed to the fantastic sub, but either way to my ears it was easilly one of the most impressive sub-bass combinations I've heard so far.

Aww... shucks

. Thanks for that Muzzy, after adding the sub bass module into the VRx, I definately did notice the difference from when my sub was playing full range. I think it is a combination of the VRx and the Elite though and they are definately an awesome pairing.
Would love to see what the new VRx look like when they are out, may even change up if they look worth it.
RMA, don't know if you know at all but will the future VRx models be backward compatible with the current range of add in modules? Or would you have an estimated release date? WOuld love the thesis but I can't justify 6k (yet anyway...

No details on the new VRx as yet, generally speaking the new products I would expect to run with the old modules but we just dont know.
Maybe some info released at CES 2007 but again I just dont know, what I do know is that VRx is scheduled for a major upgrade and that there are a few products on the way which will make a few people sit up and shake their heads in amazement!
