Hi Guys
just thought id get some opinions on whether a sealed box would sound better for my JLW6v2 sub running off an ARC audio mono (approx 650wrms @ 2ohms). its currently in a ported box in the tyre well of my civic and to be honest, it doesnt sound that great. My old JLW3 sounded better in a sealed box running off my old 4 channell with about 300wrms. My musical preferences are pretty varied, ranging from hip/hop, rnb to a bit of jazz/blues and even a little bit of classical!
thanks for the thoughts

IMO a vented enclosure sounds best. They are however more harder to design and build and must be built to exacting specifications get the desired results.
Having said that, JL subs are well known for the sealed enclosure performance.

the jl ported boxes have to pretty precise and seem like a bit of a bitch to build yourself sealed also save space

i went straight off the JL vented design for my 10W6 (with a slight modification of dimensions), and its the best sub i have ever heard in said enclosure. poos on my old ID MAX

JL use slot ports in their designs for vented boxes, they arenot incredibly technical to build, but all the dimensions need to be spot on.
I have an 8w7 in one of their boxs its an L shaped vent and it sounds really good, but nothing compared to my 13w6v2 in a sealed box.
I'm fairly certain the w6's perform much better than vented in a sealed enclosure for sq purposes. And i would be sure as anything your spare tyre well isn't the correct size in litres for your w6 so you should expect it to sound off the mark. It must be begging for a new home.
All in all your w3 suited the tyre well when your w6 needs to part from it.
