Hey guys!

First I would like to say this is a very nice forum. Been reading a lot of topics!

I am from Brazil (but lived one year in Wangaratta-VIC), and I would like to build a nice 3-way setup to be able to participate on the Brazilian Iasca which will restart next year.

I am coming to the USA in December and gonna stay there until April (Granby, CO).

So far I came up with this:

Headunit
Alpine IVA-W200
Alpine PXA-H701
PAC TR-7

Front Stage
TW – Hybrid Audio Legatia 1
MIDR – Hybrid Audio Legatia 3
MID – Dynaudio MW162

Stereo Amplifier
DLS RA40 (4x 75w)
DLS RA40 (2x 230w bridged)
or
Alpine PDX-4.150 (4x150w)
Alpine PDX-2.150 (2x150w)

Subwoofer
JL Audio 10W6v2

Sub Amplifier
Rockford Fosgate 500M

Anyone got any suggestions please? The 500M and 10W6v2 will come from my old system which you guys can find here: http://www.sounddomain.com/ride/2511895/1

I am thinking on mounting the L3 and L1 on the A Pillar. And the midbass would go in the doors (which will be properly deadened of course).

The car is a VW Polo Hatch 2003. Smile

Any suggestions will be really apretiated!

Cheers!

why not wait for the legatia midbass to be relesed? shouldnt be to far away now.
Shreknos
yeah, got to feel the legatia's mids a few weeks ago,

i believe that all the time and money has gone to sound and performance, cos there aint no wank on it beside the polished magnet, very impressive
Diogo Ianaconi
Yeah!
I will try to test the Legatia 6 before I chose the mid. Anyone here have tested the Dynaudio MW162?
What about the amplifiers guys? What would you chose?

Thx a lot!
Pulse-R
I will have the MW162's later this week (I hope) so will see how they go.

I use the JLAudio 300/4 amps at the moment, with a 500/1 for the sub, but that may change as I am waiting for the midbass to see how they go.
Diogo Ianaconi
Cool mate! Let me know how you like them. I am kinda undecided between Dynaudio, Legatia 6 and the Peerless Exclusive.

The MW162 is very nice, not sure as justs a midbass as mine are as 2 ways, but very impressed so far... will report back when thay are broken in properly

I think you should mix bewtween the PDX and DLS. I would choose PDX4.150 for the mid-rane and tweeters due to their extremely quiet and clean music background. I will then choose RA20 to operate the midbass due to superior damping factor and better dynamic headroom. If you can change your mid and widen your choice a bit, I would recommend the use of Seas Cressendo tweeters and Scanspeak Midrange 12W4831 and midbass 18W8545.

I don't really know about IASCA in your zone but DLS and DST/Scanspeak rules the EMMA world final there in Europe. From my experience, EMMA is a much more develloped SQ format. the standard of EMMA is a lot higher than IASCA. From My experience the combi of the front splits above will sure kill Hybrid audio any day of the week
Diogo Ianaconi
So you think a 3-way with:

Seas Cressendo
Scanspeak 12W4831
18W8545

Will be much better?

I heard the Alpine PDX aren't so good with midbass duties so I believe matching them would be a great idea. Although I lose the cosmetic integration, it seems like a wise choice.

Thx a lot so far!

ive used the 18w8545 scanspeaks in a few cars now as rear fill drivers. These have a very enjoyable midbass and seem to be ok in a IB setup.

i have yet to hear a scanspeak paper revelator mid but they do look extemely interesting and fun driver. These should be a little dark sounding and a tad less dynamic than dyn or metal mids but a lot more forgiving on all music. The 5inch looks like a better choice over the 4inch due to the fact that they have very similar upper midrange pots but the 5inch can go a lot lot lower reducing the midbass frequencies ( so you can reduce midbass location problems and x-over over the mids to 150-200hz)

ive heard the seas tweeters before they are good...but they really do sound similar to the scanspeak revelator dome tweeters. Maybe the top of the range excell tweeters are better than the second top that i have heard.

personally id choose something that comes in a set with a passive x-over included. This way you have a good setup right away then when you have lots of time you can play around with active. If that doesnt work these always the passive to go back to smile.gif
golf_bht
It all depend how good you are at tuning a system. you will always be able to play with a lot of thing in active 3 ways system. If you know what you are doing, chance are that you will spend about 10% of time as if you were to play with passive. At the end of the day passive still sound a tad better but semi active sounded the best!!!!

golf have you owned and lived with a pdx amp....if not please do not post about these amps at all. Yes these are the cleanest sounding amps i have owned and the smallest.

with a very well setup and designed front stage with very high quality drivers i would not recommmend the pdx over a high end class a/b amp.

for 99.999% of people the pdx is excellent but for those whom want the little bit extra i would recommend a very powerful class a/b amp. Without a well setup front stage you will never tell the difference between a class a/b and a pdx....midbass they MIGHT might be able to tell a difference.
Diogo Ianaconi
Hmm so which amps do you guys think would be better for my 3-way active?

Arc Audio FD4150 + FD2200
or
Alpine PDX4150 + PDX2150?

Or any others?

Thx guys!
zion187reigneth
PDX 150 for the mids and tweets,,detailed
High end A/B type for the midbass drivers,, crazy midbass...........zion
Diogo Ianaconi
So far that is how the system looks like:

Headunit
Alpine IVA-W200
Alpine PXA-H701
PAC TR-7

Front Stage
TW – Hybrid Audio Legatia 1
MIDR – Hybrid Audio Legatia 3
MID – Hybrid Audio Legatia 6

Stereo Amplifier
Genesis Profile 4 Ultra (4x 100w)
Genesis Profile 2 Ultra (2x 150w)

Subwoofer
JL Audio 10W6v2

Sub Amplifier
Rockford Fosgate 500M

Still deciding some things though smile.gif
