Hi Guys,
Looking for high end tweeter options,
running the Focal TN52 at the moment, while with good EQ it's a solid performer,
I'm looking for more.
of course i've considered the Utopia BE Tweeters, but short of buying the whole $4800 set, you can't get them separately.
The other option is scanspeak revelators.. which I'm seriously considering at around $750 a pair.
What else should I be looking at? if you guys could give me some others tweer models to consider,
(in the range I'm looking at)
will spend up to 1K, looking at the high end only.
Prefer 8ohm, but can run 4ohm too.

Seas (dont know model number)
Rainbow Reference tweeter (or platinum tweeter, which i know can be bought seperate)

Maybe fabulous accoustic which I think Henry Sutrino was using a while back for something different.
Hertz Mille would also be an option.

Scanspeak for the win, go for Ring Radiator for that budget.

[Esotar and Rainbow Reference both exceed that the $1k budget. Also, I think the Reference tweeters are also only available as part of the component set, although don't quote me as i'm not 100% certain on this.
Seas Millenium, Lotus Reference, Scanspeak Revelators, Morel Supremo/Picollo and Rainbow Platinum may all be worth consideration.
Plus probably a bunch of others that I can't think of right now

Try this article for some tips:

Scanspeak for the win, go for Ring Radiator for that budget.
Last time I checked, the ring radiator was around $750 per tweeter, not per pair. That means around $1,500 per pair which is closer to esotar territory and quite abit outside of the $1k budget. Not sure if there is anywhere where they area available cheaper though.

I heared the Scan Speak Revelator 2904-7100 tweeter (soft dome not the Ring Radiator 2904-7000) recently and it is very very nice. Lotus Reference tweeter can't touch it for sure because I am running Lotus tweeter now and Lotus Ref sound "awful" , relatively speaking, versus Scan Speak 2904-7100. Revelator is almost as smooth as Esotar tweeter, just slightly more edgy. I heard the Rainbow reference tweeter but I am not convinced it is as good as Esotar or Revelator. My money would be on on either Scan Speak 3004/6600 (will be released again in 1/2007, I am waiting for a pair!!!) or 2904-7100 unless you want to spend above $1500 a pair for the 2904-7000 or Esotar (but I bet you can't find it anywhere).

I was going to say that, either that or I just got ripped! I didn't pay as much as $1500 though.
The sad thing is I've bought them twice for the one car.

They went "walkabout".....

More on axis would have been nice, but this vehicle is more about looks than imaging....
Can't wait to hear them, I have a set of the 2905/990000 Revelators (not the ring radiators) in some of my home speakers I've built and they are
awesome.
I'm going to run 600Wrms a side to the rings, so there should be enough headroom.

I know a place in Footcray Vic selling around 750 aud a pair of the ring radiators with fully manufacture warranty,so if anyone interested then shoot me an email.
Since these tweeters designed for home audio so I am not too sure if the the warranty extended for car user.

I got a RRP straight of Wes Components of $540 Each for the Scanspeak Revelators R2904,
and I've seen them advertised around Australia for around $375 each.
I'm still considering this tweeter,
I've heard the Esotar, didn't do anything really for me to be honest.
I like tweeters to be more alive and revealing, than the softer sound from Dyn's.
Mounting up to 4" isn't a issue, installation isn't going to be a problem, I'll just make them fit!!
nothing a little bit of Fibreglass and bog can't fix. i'm willing to have a huge tweeter if they are going to be
bloody sweet.
my Biggest gripe with the revelator is they only come in 4 ohm, meaning I cannot utilize my exsisting passive x/over, but it isn't a issue, as I have enough amp channels and processing to run active if need be, and given what i hear I need a higher cut point than 3.5khz for the revelator anyway.

Dude, if you're buying such a high end speaker I would build a passive to suit. Crossovers are more then just a frequency "point"...
Think about things like Zobel/impedence correction and notch filters (ok not really used in car audio).
Edit: Fixed a typo cos Brady is anal.

Certainly this is a long term consideration,
in the short term it will be run actively however.

You'll need to sit down and audition them of course but what about the Morel Piccolo?

Im with Marty. Try the Supremo or the Piccolo too, plus I have the MD130 if you are up for a listen...
also recommend some ribbons if you're game.

Beautiful speaker, but a wee bit out of his price range me thinks. Plus there is around a 4month lead time on them at the moment!!

Morel MT23 are smooth and clean
also a vote for the revelator ring.
Vifa XT25 are ok, and seem to be OK down to 1.5kHz

How could ribbon's possibly sound good in a car? You would never be equal distance from them so it just wouldn't work?

The Brax looks similar to Seas tweeter.
