was previously using alpine 9835 then switched to a pioneer DEH- P88rs, im trying to work which set of RCA's do what when the decks in 3-way mode

1st set of RCA's as = Sub
2nd set of RCA as = Mid Rangers
3rd set of rca as = Main Tweeters & Ambients

or should it be connected like this?

one set of RCA's as = Sub
2nd set of RCA as = Mid Rangers & Main tweeters
3rd set of rca as = Ambients only

the second setup is how my Alpine 9835 was done, and its still connected this way but now that i've swaped decks im having troubles getting the main tweeters to play higher notes its all comin from the ambients which has lead me to think the rca are to be conencted diffrerntly sad.gif

Thanks heaps

How do you have your amps set up?

Leigh
Juls
The pioneer X/overs might be limited.

check the x/over settings in the head unit, see if the midrange output has a Low pass on it.

im not using any of the x-over settings on the amp its all controled by the HU.

two channel is runing ambients

4 channel is running mid's and main tweeters

yeah the Headunit does have midgrange HPF & LPF

what i mean is, in 3 way mode, does the headunit have limitations on it's midrange channel?

Some of them have limitations to 5 or 10khz, which might explain the lack of top end your experiencing.

i dont have the car for today to check,

its the pioneer reference series headunits so it shouldnt have limitations like that i wouldnt think.

i think it might be the way the 3-way freq are split up on the RCA's as you can see in my orignal post.

i think the 3rd set of RCA must have both the ambients and tweeters on that 2nd set must be for midrangers only, and last set of sub only.

where as on the alpine the main tweeters and midrangers where run on the same set of rca's outs, and the ambients where run on the own set of rca's
Pulse-R
you can turn off any of the h/u crossovers - set the slope to 'pass' and it will not limit the frequency.

yeah i would prefer to use the x-overs on the Headunit tho as its much easier to adjust.

is anyone running a pioneer headunit in 3-way mode here? if so can they explain how they have wired the rca's up? as above in my original post this would help heaps
Pulse-R
for a 4-way (3+sub) I have used the low output for the sub (20Hz to 63Hz), mid for midbass and midrange(50Hz to 2.3kHz) which is then crossed over at the amp for each (800Hz), and high for the tweeter and ambient (2.3kHz and 12kHz), also crossed over at the amp.

all slopes are 12dB on the amp and the h/u.

I didn't feel I had enough adjustment, so now using the PXA-H701.
sliksilvia
i've email marty he believes that this would be the go to connect the RCA's to amps

1st set of RCA's as = Sub
2nd set of RCA as = Mid Rangers
3rd set of rca as = Main Tweeters & Ambients

can anyone confirm this when using pioneers ?

with the alpine its done a lil different mids and main tweets run on the same set of RCA's!
Pulse-R
yes that will work
Woob
im about to do this with my 9815, and ill be doing mids on mid RCA, and main tweets and ambients off the tweeter rca, using a cap inline with the ambients to boost the high pass a wee bit.

with my 9835 i had installed n tuned by Technik in Perth

it was run differently... the midrangers and main tweeters where on the same set of RCA's and ambient tweets where on there own set of RCA's

i believe this because the alpines work differntly with the 3-way mode setting so u might have to go that way Woob?

but with the pioneer is has to be done wit midrange on one set of RCA's and main tweets and ambients on the other as i have figured out now that iv gone from alpine to pioneer
Woob
to run the mids and tweets off the same rca you would need some form of crossover on the tweets, wether it be capacitor or amp set.. so either way ill need a cap in the setup tongue.gif
Pulse-R
when I ran my ambients passive, I used a cap for the crossover, and also Zobel network - worked fine, but didn't want to buy a different cap for each time I moved the tweeter so now active works.
WAYCON
If you have the amp channels free active is definatley the way to go on ambients biggrin.gif

Though understandably many people don't have an extra amp channel
Woob
ill be using a seperate amp for my ambients, but have no means of making it active unless i usea Sherwood x-over ive got here, but that only controls the xover point, cant play with slopes or anything sad.gif
sliksilvia
ive swaped the RCA's around seems all good, ill be taking it to get tuned next week
