this was discussed with a shop up the north coast of nsw and i may have a very big comp idea that someone may be willing to grab hold of.
its called the " AUDIOSALON"
like auto salon except its car audio but open it up nationally and maybe NZ as well. hold it over a 2 day event or something like that.
what do we think?

I dont think Cabin would take to well to an event called "Audiosalon"

I like the idea, BUT......I say lets concentrate on getting competitors to the shows that are already on the calendar before we go creating more shows that will have below par turn outs.

Here's a great idea ! How about we run comps in the Newcastle region, and advertise them properly, and have a respected audio shop who doesnt have a long history of fixing comps by loaning mega buck gear to friends/family/girlfriends run it ! Get heaps of people involved, and get some big number hitters from say... Sydney and surrounds involved, and the locals, and have a real comp in the Hunter region.
And not BITCH about it on CAA, and not hassle out the NSW reps either. That sounds great ! I love going to Newie and visiting mates who live there.. shame the non-sanctioned comps are so bad run and obviously rigged, and the sanctioned events seem to scare almost everyone away.
That'd be grouse as ! See some 150dB+ cars, some phat drivers and that.. just like Dorans, but on the central coast.

How do you 'rig' an SPL comp?
AutoBarn's up in Queensland hold regular SPL comps, almost every two weeks. From North Bris right down to Tweed Heads. Slacks Creek A/B even had one every week for a month. At a typical Friday night comp, it's not unusual to have 30 cars entered. Maybe hit up your local AutoBarn down there.
As for sanction events, it does seem wierd that not many cars turn up hey?

Put simply... if your shop ran a comp, and you loaned the Mazda to your sister 'cos you know no one will beat it, same thing.
Respectable businesses, such as Doran or yourself, would never dream of doing something like that. Others it seems have no problem, and never have, 'cos the people I'm talking about right now have been doing this since I started SPL back in 2002.

Id have to agree with Blackice here, i would love to be apart of proper SPL competitions in the Newy area where the guys from Sydney can come up and compete. not knowing much bout the newy comps and ythe happenings up there.
but now i can see how one newy competitors scores jumped so much. i do believe if a shop is going to sponsor your car and give you gear to use then thats all fine. provided that comp is open to cars that can compete against that car.
but if a shop gives you top range gear just to compete to flog all the other local guys then that sucks. specially when its a comp made for ony locals.
but since this is happening im sure once the guys do open it up to outside people to enter such as the sydney cars. see how much gear gets loaned out then probably none. no use loaning gear out and not winning then.

Last time I looked, JBL didnt run SPL events for me to enter and win at.
And the reps from JBL didnt take the amp out of the car after every event either and put it back on the shelf.

i have just got a quote for the newcastle entertainment center to host a 2 day event. we are looking at a fair price to pay for it. if people are serious about this event or the idea then spred the word and see if the interest is out there. i got it cheaper then most cause i know all the people over there cause i work there regularly.

people that are sponsored work hard to get the deals they shouldnt be penalised for their hard work to get the sponsorship. plus there is only bout a couple of cars in aus that are sponsored anyway. SPL is a expensive sport you spend the money you pay your dues and if you get sponsored then lucky i say cause its not a big thing here yet.
will use an example i think i have had so far 15,000 roughly worth of gear go through my car in 2years.
but by this years end the car should have bout $25,000 worth just in stereo gear in it with out materials for the install. in one go. thats the type of sport we are in though to be the best you have to spend a small fortune and work hard to get what you want. thats why we have street A,B,C though to so ya dont need to go massive with ya stereo gear to win but to be the best in any of the classes it still costs a heap.
its not a sport for the faint hearted.
BUT ANYWAY NOW FOR THE TOPIC
a two day event sounds tops but dont forget there is a few classes in SPL if yas organse an event like this ya cant just run 6 odd class or that. they would need be good and fair classes just like dbdrags classes.
and then SQ classes and other stuff. but in my opinion is get a bunch of yas and brainstorm a heap of ideas to do with the comp and what yas want to do with it.
-find out costs of trophies and if audio shops would be interested in sponsoring the event and getting involved to which im sure they would.
-how many people yas can fit
-spectators stuff costs and things
-how many meters are you going to run as ya dont wanna use only one termlab its just not viable to do so.
-but yeah there are a heap of things to consider i would more then happy to help if i wasnt working so much but would lend a hand if asked or needed.
something like this ya wouldnt be able to prob have happen until next year realistically because there is a tonne of planning ya would need to organise and then have it so it doesnt interfere with any events on the dbdrag and SQ callenders but yeah i say good idea.
but i would definately enter and if it was fully organised it would be sort of like our own mini worlds. but to give yas an idea yas are going to be competing with the lies of the australian finals to which is the one big SPL event for each year. but yeah im in for it if its organised properly.
cheers billy

if you were gunna do something like this, you would make it a legit bd drag round, and possibly CAASQ as well.
and SH-OO-KU in regards to sponsorship, is it sponsor ship if the store running the comp gives gear to ppl, in order to flog the competition, and get a name for themself, then take the gear back straight after the comp??
no it isnt...its cheating..
Speed of Sound aka splboy
Jan 16 2007, 05:05 PM
Im not aware of the shop running the comp loaning equipment to anyone. Me personally, who runs their own install business has 2 very good customers that love competing in SPL and yes ive loaned them an amp that i personally own. As most of you would know there are a great many competitors out there that compete on borrowed gear, whether it be from someone they know that owns a shop or if it be from friends!

Steve,
Love your enthusiasm but after seeing what dan went through before and after X-Torque, i would seriously reccomend thinking long and hard about whether you want to take on a project of this size.
Unless you got some serious dollars behind you, i would just put that enthusiasm and effort into supporting CAASQ and Db Drag in NSW and leave the big shows to the big groups...

Talk to Cruiser and even Angelo from dB Drag Racing Australia, they'll let you know EXACTLY how much work and more importantly CASH it takes to run such an event.
I also think and don't take this the wrong way, you need to start small then work up to the bigger stuff, no business is going to just jump on board to support a group of guys who haven't run a local show, let alone a show of the suggested size.

dB Drag Racing Australia will be running an offically sanctioned event at
'The Jap Super Show' & it will feature the EVO vs WRX standoff
Date is the 8th of April, so the second Sunday in April.
Venue is the Mt Penang Gardens, Somersby
This is smack in the middle of the central coast, I suggest competitors should show there support at this event.
It will give you a better indication for your own show.
PS CAASQ is a possibility for this show as well.
