Just got myself a fused distribution block with "Compression fittings". I have not seen these before, how do they work? A guide to using the fitting would be useful

Compression Fittings: How to use Them

In this tutorial i'll be using Tsunami 4awg loknut/compression fitting and some 4awg cable

• Start with the cable and the connector. This is just some Tsunami LokNut stuff I have around for the car.

• Unscrew the compression lug from the block using a spanner. The lug next to the wire shows how much length you need at the end of the compression fitting. The end of the wire folds over the edge of the lug and ensure that the folded strands don't reach the tread on the nut.. trim as required.

• With the lug out, the inside is simply a solid machined cavity with a screw thread.

• Using a craft knife, strip off enough of the cable insulation to fit through the compression lug and leave some poking out the top...

• ... like so.

• Bend the wires back over the edge of the compression lug. Try and spread them around as evenly as possible.

• Firmly push the compression lug back inside the block. It will feel firm, as though its too large for the hole, and you may encounter some resistance, but with a firm push it will eventually slide right in.

• Should look like this now.

• Done like a done thing.

Hope that helps biggrin.gif

I know my Phoenix Gold Zero Point fuse holder from 6 years ago, uses the same tecnology.

Once its screwed in, its ROCK solid, you cannot move, pull the connection apart.

Stinger had these for a while, but stopped - maybe a patent thing.. :shrugs:

Stinger, Tsunami and DLS all use the technology.. its pretty good smile.gif

Briliant work DeeCee!! Can't thank you enough - I think this is "Tutorials & Frequently Asked Questions" section worthy.....

The distro block I got was off ebay - i'll confirm the brand when I get home. I wasn't a mainstream one though.....

Top work Deecee, I have some ring terminal like that but didn't know what they were called.
They are pretty good, nice and clean and secure. Beats little grub screws IMO.
