Shreknos
hi guys...

my question is regarding loading subs off bootlids in a hatchback...

my sub is probably 3 inches away from the boot lid, firing back obviously,

now, i was reading soundpressure.com and they reommend to laod the sub like 1 inch away from the boot lid, if i made a second baffle out of 1 inch thick mdf, to bring the sub closer to the bootlid, would it make any difference??

here is a vid of my car for some reference and a few laughs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjQq60qI8Cs

It's hard to say, you can only try it see if it helps or hinders, I dare say there will be a point where it's too close and output suffers.
trism
id say where it is, its loaded perfect...

and after that video, i think i can comfortably sa i love you Charlie.... tongue.gif

that. was. awesome. biggrin.gif:D:D

Heh heh heh!
What are they saying, I can't make it out?

I've personally had more luck loading subs 3-6 inches away from the hatch.
Have you tried adjusting the angle? (chock up up at the back so it faces up a few degrees)
Or is all that fixed in position?

Doing that in my car, albeit a different shape, got me another 1.5dB.
Shreknos
ill try the angle thing...

but it may bring the sub closer to the hatch...

they were pretty much saying "F@#K that man, i cant even get my head in there" while me and my mate were giggling cos we want it louder...

noone at the drags could believe how loud it was...

oh, and thanks trism.. love you to bro..

Dont change anything as far as you box goes, just play with positioning, if you find it's louder a particular way, then make it a permanent thing.

I found in the commodore (may be different) that I got highest SPL with the box 15" away from the 'hatch'...

http://forum.soundpressure.com/showthread....2733&page=2

top of that page is the test at full clipping...

butt load of power there

post 24 however is at 0%THD..

then goes on to say that at ~1%THD the power is almost double 1830w @ 1.15ohm.

at 14.4V measured at 60Hz

on the first page it says a bit about them strapped:

QUOTE
a pair strapped at .5 ohm are .4db less than 1 z1 at .5ohm. they handle .5 with no problem for burps though. they will run 16v though. i'm sure at 16v they would be louder than the z1 at 12v.

the Z1 will make around 4400-4500 at 0.5 ohm, at 12.5V so figure that a pair of M2 strapped to 0.5 will output 4.1??

I found that loading is best around 4-6inch, any closer and i start lossing dbs, i had my sub box top loaded inbetween my strut and move it right to the back and gained 2dbs.

Shreknos
thank you all...

ill try the angle, but, i physically cant make any other adjustments without building a new box...
