I have a Vh commodore and I have just bought a head unit for it I was wondering if anyone could give me some help as to get the old one out. Someone said that I have might have to take the dash off to get anywhere. If anyone could get any info this would be great.

there is an easy way to get the stock HU out, but it requires a screwdriver and a hammer, and you just bash straight through the center of the unit till you can get to the back and unbolt it, just make sure you have power disconnected before you try this

there are special keys that allow you to get the stock unit out, but it is very hard to get them. Or remove the lower left dash panel.

Not that easy.....
There is a bracket at the back of the unit that is bolted in from the top.
You need to drop the lower half of the dash off, this means pulling the glove box and A/C controls out.
Even then you need to cut through the bolt that holds the rear of the stock unit in.
At least it's easier than a VL.

Huh, every VH i have owned (two) and the countless VH/Vks i have worked on, merely required you undo the nuts behind the volume and tuning knobs
That said they only had the AM radio in them
By looking quickly at some stuff i have laying around, pull the ash tray out and see if that helps any
pulling the dash out isnt very hard anyway, just be careful with the heater controls
