I have just made some fg pods for my sps-171a splits but after hookng it all up there seems to be little bass coming from the woofer. I have double checked the wiring and they are hooked up ok but when listening to a track from wolfmother I can hardly hear the drums at all. The vocals are fine.

I didnt use any fg matting just the resin when I made them, could this be a problem? The pods are covered in vinyl and there doesnt seem to be any air escaping.

I had 6X9's in the doors before installing the components and they were alot better sounding so I am thinking there is something wrong with the structure of pods? The doors arent sound deadened as yet but I still dont think that is the problem as the 6X9's were 10X better. Any help?

have u checked if the 6.5"s are out of phase? possible cause of lack of bass wink.gif
fury
Are the pods fully sealed (IE: there is no hole between the rear of the pod and the door)?

As in the bass is too late or not in time with music?

The pods are not fully sealed, there is a hole in the backing of the pods for the magnet to go into the door cavity

no. in phase. meaning make sure they are inphase with each other. so check that one speaker hasnt got teh positive and negative wired teh wrong way.

Yeah they are, I checked that.

mm, maybe just switch them over, just to check, so you can be 100% sure.

do the pods seem to be flexing at all?

I did swap them over, to double check. But I will do it again with both the ones from the amp and from the speakers again just to triple check. unsure.gif wacko.gif

There doesnt seem to be any flexing, I have had a close look to see if the vinyl was moving cause I thought that maybe cause I didnt use matting that the resin wasnt enough and the air was just escaping but the vinyl doesnt move at all! wacko.gif Thats what has got me stumped. wacko.gif blink.gif

But I will swap all the wiring again and see what happens but I dont think that is the problem. If that doesnt work I will just try putting the woofers straight in the doors without the pods and see if it makes a difference unknw.gif

you only need to swap one side. not both.

also, make sure there is plenty of room for the air to get around the magnet - and into the door cavity.

"Choking" a woofer will be the same as putting it in a small box.

You just might be onto something there. The hole I made in the backing of the pods was just enough for the magnet to fit through. If the wiring proves to be ok, which I'm sure it is, I will take a pod off the door and try the woofer in the door without the pod and see what happens.... thanx heaps
SpAnK
yep make sure the hole to the door cavity is of a half decent size it helps

i hate to be a tard but u have splits yes? do u have the modulators hooked up to them not just straight to the amp? just an innocent question
meatpie
And deadening the doors once there is more breathing room for the woofer. look at the Sound Deadening tute, and before you ask, at the end of the day, Dyanamat Extreme is your best option to deaden. Its worth doing the inner and outer skins, Oh and its a lot easier than you think it is to deaden a door so dont put off doing it smile.gif Good Luck.

I took the woofer out of the pod and put it straight in the door. It did sound a little better so I will be making a mucher larger hole in my pods base mdf. The doors will be deadened very soon with dynamat... I am not going to mess around with cheaper stuff, just want the job done right with no headaches!!

Good luck man, I did my whole car with Dynamat Extreme. 2 full bulk packs, and I could use more. The difference is amazing.

Pulse-R
