Hey guys

I am a bit suss on my battery. I am going to get another but id like to get something a little better than the heavy duty excide one that I currently have.

Id love to get an odessy or something but the budget just wont strech that far atm. So I was wondering how would a truck /tractor century battery go (can fit it as I have an ltd lol), or maybe one of those yassa (or what ever they are lol) ones that go in bmws?

I am running 2 soundstream 360watt rms amps for the cabin and a soundsrteam piccasso 700watt rms amp for the type r 15 inch sub. I also have a 2 farrad cap. I have drawn a shoddy wiring diagram so you can see how its all wired up too.

If I just need to save for a oddessy or something just say so lol - I just wanted the pros and cons of ether type if you know. And I want to ensure that my monoblock is getting all the power it needs.

I'd run 0gauge cable from the battery to the 'T'
and you really only need one voltage readout.

otherwise looks fine
what do the voltages read:
1. engine on
2. engine off
and for each of those, with and without stereo playing 'loud-ish'.

Engine on is 13.6
engine off is 12.1 (dropped to 11.9 today, but car has not run for a week or so)

Stereo playing loudish i get 13.1 on
off I get 11.5

Also, if I play tunes with the car off with the bass gain turned right down and volume at a decent level just to hear nicely while working, the battery lasts for no longer than 1 hour before its dead flat.

oh and i know i dont need 2 read outs - but i had it, so i used it lol

Ok 1 hour with the car off is pretty std.

if it were me id invest the money in getting one of the scosche dual battery isolators (i have experiance with an almost identical product (redarc), the only difference is the redarc has a votage sensor and keeps the batteries connected for winching purposes unless the voltage falls below a certain level. We use them for marine and 4x4 use and they are pretty much the best you can get your hands on!) and get yourself another deep cycle battery seal battery to mount in the boot. (take all precautions fuse both batteries and vent the battery box)

cheapers than an oddesy or optima or orbital and will give your system more flexability - plus on top of that if your stereo battery does go flat your car battery will start the car still no worries!

you can pic up good 90- 100 AH deep cycles from UPS applications from EBAY quite cheap search "deep cycle battery"

Thanks man - thats a big help! I never even heard of the isolators before lmao! What are they worth? I could really use one given that my beast is an automatic.

edit

just did an ebay search for the batteries and there are a few there. Will any of them do? Im just concerned as ive never heard of any of the cheaper ones before... dont wanna end up with a dud lol

The Isolators are available from the online store and I can assure you that the store is now up and running 100%!

You might need to talk to your local audio shop or auto elec to make sure the solinoid only closes once the alternator is charging not just when the ignition is on.

The batteries on EBay are generally quite good.

I've had good experiance with a battery seller from NSW called CODA Batteries. I had 12 100ah batteries sent down from NSW late last year.

Looking on E-Bay just now doesnt find me any batteries I'd be jumping on (other than two in QLD but the guy isnt willing to post).
Just keep an eye out - it may take a month or two till you find the battery for you but they will come up.

The reasons alot of the batteries you have never heard of is because they are generally used in things like trucks forklifts and UPS and solar applications not in cars. They are also generally quite expencive to buy when compared to a new "car battery" also because of their size they are generally bought second hand (6-12 months old in UPS / Backup use) by caravaners / RVers. Just remember that most of these batteries have never been discharged and those that have generally havent been discharged below 90% - thats better than the average car battery! Alot of them also have bolt up terminals not the "stud" type terminals on car batteries - this makes them easier to install in a stereo application!

Without a doubt as long as you can secure it under the bonnet correctly and securely.
