Hiya all,

Just got my learners permit today ! I am looking to join a motorcycle club in Victoria (So I have some experienced riders to learn from) and also to get some links to any decent forums ?

Just got a CBRR 250 and was wondering who to insure with and if joining the HRCA and doing the insurance through them would be a good idea ?

Also,

Any other tips for a start out rider ? Like where to get gear at good prices and what to look for would be great !

Thanks !

Congrats on getting your learners! yahoo.gif

A good resource for new riders is www.netrider.net.au

If you are in Melbourne I have had great experiences with Bikemart and Peter Stevens in Ringwood. Insurance is likely to be expensive...due to age and the type of bike you hae bought...there are an awful lot of CBR-250's that get binned and unfortunately insurance rates reflect this...you can try

Insure my ride

You may be better off with 3rd party if full comp is too exxy...however don't skimp on insurance and risk it...if the crap hits the fan it's nice to know the insurance will sort it out and you won't have to fork out thousands for the car you may have hit....

As for gear obviously you will need...

Helmet
Gloves
Boots
Jacket
Draggin Jeans (kevlar lined jeans)

and If you are going to ride hard full leathers and a back protector

I can't stress the importance of the proper gear enough...I have seen what happens when crap happens and you don't have the right gear on and trust me you don't want to go through it...

Anyway check out netrider for a bit more info and advice! smile.gif

The more time u spend on the road the higher the percentage of getting smashed up.
Take this senario for instance.
You riding down a street and cars are wanting to turn from the side streets into your path, the first 100 times u are very cautious and have a finger on the front brake and full ready for a change in conditions if that driver doesnt see u.If you become conditioned to expecting cars to see u then the % gets higher.Ive done alot of riding on the road and some road conditions are hairy at best............cors

Hey champ dont worry bout the "tempary Aussy haters" ^^^
I've been riding for years and havent had any ackos but as stated earlyer get the right gear esp. draggin jeans ( I love my 3 pairs ) and I would seirously surgest doing more riding corses.
You learn heaps like how you actualy turn the handle bars to the right to go left and vica verca and there fun too

Something really expensive!

I used to ride heaps but mainly in the bush where you feel like you're going really fast but sometimes only doing 60k. When I see bikes on the road now I cringe cos I know what its like coming off.

So congrats on your learners but be careful out there hey!

I cant recomend a sertain brand but I agree with power band with the fact that expencive ones are a lot better
the scull cap that I use when I ride is only wearing me for protection !
