i got myself some splits and i want to know the best place to mount the tweeters. i was going to mount them on the top of the door, as i have seen that in a lot of cars, but there isnt quite enough room. so now they are gonna hafta go on the front pillers. the panel comes of easy and there is no problem with mounting or wireing, so where do you recomend?

the car is a 1984 mercedes 190E
the speakers are fusion 4" splits (the woofers - although there are more like midrange, are mounted in the factory holes on the dash facing the windscreen so im worried that if the tweeters are two low the might rattle or effect the sound from the woofers)

anyway, whats your advice? hi or low?

also, the woofers have a metal mount ring (as all do), but my car doesnt have holes to properly mount the speakers (the factory ones used a spring to hold them inplace) the speakers are nicely wedged but the surround is bent up so they fit... whats the safest way of removing it without risking damage to the speakers.
Gordo!
Mount the tweeters where they sound best to you!

For a starting point, try on the pillars just above the instrument cluster and facing each other.

facing each other? do you mean direct the drivers side at the passenger side and so on? if this is better i am sure gald i asked becouse i would have faced them towards the closest seat.

thanks for the speedy reply too

It completely depends on the car and the tweeters themselves, but it's a starting point. Having the facing each other helps to make it sound the same from either seat.

Where in QLD are you? Come along to Round 2 of CAASQ on March 3rd and demo some of the cars. It will help you to know what to be listening for etc.

try at each otehr across the glass, try at opposit headrests. try and centre of car aroudn where ur interior light normally is.

try firing straight up into the glass. try on a sail panels at opposit headrests. try kick panel and opposite headrests
try door and centre of roof. there are 50locations and 100variances. get long speaker wire and blue tac and get listening tongue.gif

sounds like a good afternoon of fun...
the fusion 4" splits i have are of the encounter series and im thinking of upgrading to sumthing better, maybe even a woofer - mid - tweet split type thing, if i do ill prob put these fusion speakers in the rear.. but as my passengers usualy complain about my taste in music i dont think they deserve quality (even low quality) so i was thinkn of puting the speakers on a mono bridge and putting one tweeter on the roof or dash about in line with the rear veiw mirror. this aint happening for a while yet, but would you say its worth a go or would this just create uneven sound? i know the best way is to just try it and let my own ears decide... but what u think?
