Full Version: What keeps you interested in car audio?

At the moment I'm at a bit of a crossroad... I'm at a stage of my life where I'll be driving my car less and less, and am feeling that car audio is not for me. My install is decent enough, however when doing a bit of listening on some home system for reference it's become evident that I may be wasting my time with alterations trying to get a system that really suits my needs (have been looking at changing headunit, new amps, possibly active or custom passive, 3 way, etc).

As stated earlier I'm soming to a stage where I'm going from previously driving about 500km a week, to probably somewhere less than 100km. When I was spending plenty of time in the car the stereo was almost justifiable; however, now I'm not so sure.

What keeps everyone interested in car audio? what gets you through the times where you think it's all a great waste of cash? Or, are others feeling the same disinterest as I?

I'm on the back end of one of those times.. Not having had a headunit or sub amp due to being fscked around by repairers for over 6 months...

But - what makes it all worth it is getting in, even with no sub and just listening - all the feelings of bitterness and hatred (of myself, the gear and some of the people I've dealt with) all dissapeared. Sure i've changed my views of the people (repairers) i've dealt with.. But once the system is back together I have no doubt my eagerness to stab them will dissapear.

What keeps me interested - well f_ck all really. I think if it wasnt for my ever increasing collection of car audio I would have been out of it long ago. What causes my collection - well thats CAA mostly. What keeps me at CAA - the long term freindship I have with a few of the members. The good times and looking forward to the next meet. CAA is about the only "club" im in with a reasonable proportion of people of all ages most of the other car clubs im in im one of the youngest where as in CAA im at the younger eng of the average age for the regulars at meets.

Other than that I think its all about the SUB BASS!
Dont get me wrong. Im an SQ boy at heart - but I like it to rattle my brain around in my head a bit. So without spending mega dollars and buying a full blown PA system big enough to fill the 'G' car audio hits the spot. I'd love a great home system but I honestly spend more time in a car than i spend at my house.

BTW - I currently dont have a stero in my car LOL

Gordo!
I like spending stupid amounts of money on useless ventures.

But really my car has always been my own personal space and being that I'm a fan of music, car audio is obvious. Oh and so I can hear what sex sounds like.

For me it has always been trying not to crape myself laffing wen pulling up to the lights along side a fully sick bro that thinks his system is loud and having my system shake his rear vission mirror down

I know to some of you this might seam lame but to me its one of the best forms of intertainment i've ever experinced

O and i also agree with Remix that its an excelent form of stress release !
trism
it is a great stress relief to go and shake your eyes out of their sockets biggrin.gif i love it!!!

Thanks for the input everyone... I think home audio is calling, but I guess time will tell if I do anything car audio related on the side (maybe one last crack at getting it perfect enough).

Also, I think you're onto something; There is something nice about a little too much bass at times.

We must be related. That's the best call. I'm stealing that one
2LOUD2OLD
its all about the bass for sure
Billy aka Shakes
its the "holy crap" factor that does it for me.putting a crazy amount of gear into a little car just so it can pound that bass out thats what i enjoy most. when people look in the car and think "holycrap" thats nuts i like that hehehehehehe.

i have always been into car audio as i love my music. but bass has been my passion for the past 3 years and since i cant drive at the moment its a hobby that i love. not to mention also the friendships you make and the people that you meet through out the dbdrag scene is great also. and thats the reasons that keep me interested in SPL.

this year i turn 28 though and the only thing thats keeping me interested really now is the persuit to goto the WORLD titles within the next 2 years. i have the full support from family with this goal. but once i have achieved this goal then that will become the highlight of the sport for me. my interest will always be there but the amount that i compete will be less as there would be not much else to achieve in the sport. but i will always remain in the sport as long as my bank account allows me to do so.

those are someof the things that keep me interested in the sport.

cheers billy

My interest in car audio disappeared after I went to Europe at the start of this year. I've got the travel bug now and would rather pour money into that. And I might be buying a house this weekend.
I love listening to my system, but as for spending money on it, that won't be happening anymore. Well maybe after I fabricate one or two more things wink.gif

why audio? life sucks without good sound

why car audio? driving is my form of stress relief, and music soothes the savage beast.....
Damo95
what keeps me crawling back time and time again..

the close friends i have developed via good old caa.. and the urge to cruise.. to me cruising is in my blood.. i enjoy nothing more than jumpin in the car (with or without company) and going for a drive.. the better the day/night, the more i enjoy it.. and i enjoy it nothing more than with a decent stereo to listen to..

i've come to time where i put up with so much crap that i almost throw it all in.. but something ALWAYS pulls me back in.. and usually, its the search for better sound.. and yes, my setup is changing AGAIN.. but only speakers.. tongue.gif
DSNTGR8
the thing is car audio is like a new car, new ones come out all the time and you feel the need to keep up with the "jones" who are more technologically advanced

i do about 400km a week in my car so im constantly in it. I also agree with what interceptor said!!!
