alright i have an idea for quote " frontstage glory"

i jsut bought a saab 900 and the factory speakers are on teh dash, now i was thinking that this would be the perfect place for a nice set of midranges???

the problem is they seem to be close together... id say a little to the left of dead in fornt of the driver and vice versa... woudl this be a problem when im tryign to get some width?? or shoudl it be alright??

if its going to be a problem i was thinking of mounting tweets either up on the sails or down the bottom of the sails... am i right in thinkign this may broaden the stage width...

midbass will most likely be fiberglassed into kicks... will there be a problem with that??

ive attached a shonky picture to give you an idea of what im planning

cheers for your time

lol, why cant you sabe it as a jpeg rather than put it in a ppt?? tongue.gif

personally, id rather put the midranges down in the doors....
mazda626
lol, cuase i create my masterpieces in ppt and i dont want to wreck any of there ultragoodness, clarity and smoothness by changin the format.. DUH dont you know anything about art

Midrange and tweets are too far away from each other, you'll get a ton of separation which will stuff up your imaging. Either put them next to your midbass or build an A piller cluster.
mazda626
hmmm, coudl i just mount the tweets near the midrange??? or do you think the stage width will be way to narrow??

take some pics looking at the nearest kick/dash and centre area.Take them from both seats as this may help the responce from the feedback.........cors

I've had a look at your diagram and I guarantee there would be a problem. in my vehicle I'm concerned about the seats being too close to the doors, which means I'm right on the edge of the sound stage. In your car you're beyond the edge of the soundstage, well the midrange anyway.

I would have to agree with ikerr
Pulse-R
I agree with what's been said BUT.....

I know that it IS possible to get good imaging/staging from outside the 'sound stage'. The 'room' is what it's about. you need to get way back from the speakers, or it just doesn't work.
mazda626
i dont knwo what you mean about the edge of the soundstage??

is there any possibility of running 4 inches in the dash and still getting good imaging, staging etc/?
Pulse-R
the sound stage is generally defined as the area between and in front of the speakers. like in home HiFi - you sit 'between' and in front of the speakers.
mazda626
hmmm ok... so whats your opinions on mounting tweeter right near the stock 4 inchers.. midbass in doors?? sound ok
Pulse-R
providing the 4" are crossed over low enough (below 400Hz if possible), that should be a good result - try to keep the tweeters far apart from each other, so on the 'outside' of the mids, near the A pillars.

hope you got the option of Time Alignment also - those mids may 'pull' the stage down
mazda626
haha no time alignment, but thanks for the tips mate.. ill see how i go when i can get everything in... cheers
