I was told by my father that when he bought car speakers back in the 80's, they had a semi-circle ring of plastic that were attached to the back of the speakers, to stop water getting to the cone, like a roof. Why don't they have these today?

i put a pic in just incase theres a misunderstanding, most of the speakers i have seen dont have covers that come with them these days, anyhow, you can make your own.

All you need is an ice cream container and Liquid Nails or other strong adhesive.

Cut a piece out of the container according to the pic to fit your speaker, and glue it to the rim.

Simple.

Once I have actually done this myself I will post pics here.

Enjoy

the main thing is it restricts movement of air behind the speaker. also alot of speakers are alot deeper than they used to be so u are really pressed for space. its certainly a good idea and many standard cars still use them. u might also notice alot of ppl use pods these days or angled spacers, this is normally enough to keep them out of harms way.
