Hi all

I am busting to get into my wifes magna and putting a half decent system in. It already has some decent clarion 6x9's and the stock fronts running off the clarion head unit. She says its fine - I know different lmao!!

I want a sub in there, and ive noticed theres a place in the parcel shelf for one - it looks 8 - 10 inch without measuring it. One of you clever ppl out there will know how big it is.

This brings me to my first question.

Is a free air sub worth puttin in? If so what type? (there is no way in hell she will let me put a box in there:P)
Id want to achieve some decent bass, she listens to a lot of old school dance, metal like poison, bonjovi etc.

I remember I put a 10 inch kicker free air sub in the parcel shelf of an old fairlane of mine and it sucked - basicly couldnt hear anything.

I cant afford a lot either, so its gotta be budget suggestions. (second hand ger is fine - I usually get all my gear from CAA trader lol)

Also I guess Id need 1 or 2 amps for the front, rear and sub? Suggestions on a good quality amp setup would also rock.

the jaycar venom 8" are meant to be decent in free to air and they are cheap as chips

Also id just run a 4ch amp with the rear speakers off the headunit

I had the same problem with my wifes car, but managed to get a fibreglass sub box approved biggrin.gif.. only takes up 18 litres.

Try and go down that path.. and make the fibreglass box yourself, im sure that will sound better than a free air job.

Agreed with the rears powered of the HU - as for the sub - has anyone herd the jaycar one before?

Got the QMax Invisibass6.5 on demo if want a listen - have been designed for under seat or screwed to underside of shelf (similar to stacker - room?)

i got approval for a sub in the wifes BA in factory parcel shelf but she agreed to the digital designs 1008 ive got lying around! BONUS!
how about if its a fairly shallow sub-most 8's are you could fit a shallow but wide box in which probably wouldn't be seen anyway and won't take up luggage space.

and tell her that bon jovi etc. sound really good with decent bass! tongue.gif

the torsion bars for the bootlid are pretty close to the parcel shelf in magnas, i had issues with my old 6x9's only JUST fitting (when i removed them, there was rubbing marks on the sticker on the magnet!)

if you plan on fitting a small sub there (which will require cutting a hole in that area you were talking about.... shhhhhh wink.gif) i'd be very careful with mounting depth, an MDF spacer might be needed, bringing the sub up over the parcel shelf height

if you could end up getting approval for a sub box, mine takes up bugger all space and still has about 1cu/ft of volume.
