Just want a quick comparison of the Hertz MLK 165 vs the Alpine Type -x components.

What I already know. The type x crossover is very good and by the looks of things the hertz one isn't that great, does it allow for the ability to bi amp/bi wire? I know that the type x tweeter is quite good, nice laid back sound, will the hertz tweeter be better, it doesn't seem to be anything special but i could be wrong. IMO the type x mid is nothing special and lacks in the midbass department, it is still however quite smooth, will the hertz be better?

Now to power it I'm thinking of using either a MRV-405 (running them bi amp or channels bridged) or an audison srx4 (running them bi amp or channels bridged) I did consider the SRX2S but the guy i'm getting them for is on quite a budget, he's not a hard core SQer but he likes a decent sound.

Cheers

Having heard both I easily prefer the Hertz MLK165's. The crossover is Bi-wireable and Bi-ampable and also allows for quite a bit of Adjustment. The only downside is its very large and would not allow you to hide it away easily if thats what you wanted to do.

The tweeter is very smooth and is easily surpasses the TypeX for power handling. In the cars that ive heard the TypeX I thought that the midbass was very good just that the tweeter let it down a bit. The MLK165's are quite a deep speaker so take that into consideration also.

This is just my opinion and I would recommend trying to find a store that sells both so you could do a back to back comparison.

Ive run the Hertz on everything from an Alpine T502 ( approx 2 x 100wrms ) through to an Audison LRx2.9 ( 2 x 260wrms ) and they worked well on both. I have run them Bi-amped on 4 channel of an LRx6.9 but I didnt get a chance to hear them.

I would recommend something like an SRx2S but at the end of the day it all comes down to his budget.
