hi guys
which one of the tow is a better deck for sq(sound clarity and natural sound)? can the nak give me a better sq than the p880 in its best tuning or not? i want the better sq deck only , not the much functions however the p880 eq , ta and x-over settings make a so nice sound .. but i,v read on caraudio forums that the nak has a better sq and clarity! really?
thanks
Reza
SQ is subjective, although i've never listen to that particular NAK, i've listen to Nak CD400, CD700 and TP1200 + NAK CD changer. They are the most neutral sounding deck i've ever listen. If i have the money i'll definitely be upgrading to NAKCD700 or TP1200.

I'd have to say those decks are in different leagues and have different uses... Nak's are known to be some of the best SQ units available although the ones I used seemed to lack EQ features. I wouldn't think that the Pioneer is designed primarily as a SQ unit... It is made to look good, but it does have much better EQ features than the Nak i've used.

So I guess it depends on what gear you're using and what you want from your system...

It'd also be good if you bought from Australia rather than importing. The DEH-P880MP is a US model but is virtually identical to the DEH-P8850MP, so get the Aussie version and have a warranty. Same goes if you buy the Nak, get it from a local store.

For top SQ I would get the NAK over the Pioneer. I found that it's about the same price for local vs. imported versions too (about 10% extra for local warranty and support is well worth it).

thank dears

hi reza , how much is the difference between the cd400 and cd700 sq? is it worth the extra money for cd700?
Reza
I couldn't really say what sort of difference they make, since it was a different circumstances, CD400 was in coupe and CD700 in a demo board. Build quality wise, i think it's well worth the money already smile.gif.

What amps, speakers, and/or external EQ's do you plan to use?

I think I'm addicted to Nak! I have the CD500 in my car which is a great sounding HU, not a great deal of eq features as mentioned but it suits my listening tastes. I have the MB100 too which still has the 24bit DAC . Only small dilemma I faced with these decks is the correct stacker to use... I have a Nak MF31 which I can control disc changing with and see the cd being played on the HU but the sound has no way bnack to the HU via the wire (it's incompatible). I just got a MF21 which should work I hope!

im confused! i'v read on other forums the 880 is a better deck for sq because of the functions and also many people say that the cd500 has a better sq .. please help me

I havnt heard either, but from what has been said is that the Nak lacks the tunability of the Pioneer, however it has a much better sound SQ wise then the Pioneer. So it depends on what you are after, if you need all the tunability that the Pioneer has on offer it would be the way to go. If you are using an external EQ then you don't need the features of the Pioneer and you should head for the Nak for pure SQ output.

As asked, what gear are you planning on running with it?

Slight hijack, how much do Nakamichi head units cost? I like their style and lack of dancing dolphins.
RMA
Had Pioneer units and had Nak units.

IMO no contest THE NAK wins hands down for natural sound.

If you actually look at high-end Pioneer (or even a certain mid-range model), you won't see any dolphins rolleyes.gif

farshad... If you want help, answer our questions. What other equipment will you be running? External EQ's? What amps? What speakers?

thank for the responses
but dear stone im planning to buy a good amp for the speakers(maybe dls 1072) and subwoofer(maybe alpine r12) with a good amp .. i don't think to buy external eq's(how much is the price?) and does the cd500(without the external eq's) have better sq than the 880?
please guide me for the speakers and sub if you have a better suggestion
thankful

Personally, I think the Pioneer would be more suited to your situation. To get good quality sound in the car, you need tunability. If the deck you have doesnt have the ability to tune, then you really need to source one that does unless you get an external unit.

If you get the Pioneer and tune it up, the final sound will be more akin to "Sound Quality" then using the Nakamichi and not tuning. Dont get me wrong, the Nak is a nice deck and has a very clean sound, but its designed to complement external units. Without them, its just another CD player.
