what if you had your main tweeters mounted dash height, and had ambients down low just for width and depth???
i no its unorthodox,
but, maybe you could bring the tweeters closer together on the dash, facing the windscreen, and still get good depth and width from the ambients/??
could/would this work???

Wouldnt having the tweets up high eliminate the need for ambients??
I'm not huge on the technical side but i always thought that ambients were used to raise the soundstage and give it some 'fill'??
I can sort of understand how it could be used to 'fill' some gaps but i don't understand how it would be a benefit if a good set were used and tuned properly up high....
Can someone explain the theory abit??

Can double tweeters reduce seperation when a tweeter set is up high and a set down low?.........cors

I doubt that a reduction in seperation would be the main benefit from such a setup, wouldnt it blur the soundstage a little?
I have had no end of drama placing tweets and have almost tried anything and everything, short of a better set Im lost for a decent way to set them up with a great image, stage and still have that depth of sound big buddha was describing, seems u can have 2 of them but not three...
Might be time for a better set that can play lower, and not be so bright...
Sigh... Car audio is so tricky...

hmmmm but seperation?????.
I reakon it would fullen the very high tweets giving the impression of a thick wall , and not just a band of twanging across the window.............cors

It's worth a try I suppose, but at the very least the ambients and mains would have to be run active, to give full control of the signal. How would this be done? Sounds complicated in my mind.

woody, these ambients purpose would be to widen the stage, and deepen it,
say normally you have your tweeters at the outermost extremes of your dash,
if you were to bring them closer, meaning they were almost the sam distance apart from you, maybe 200-300mm off the a pillar, and the ambients were in the kicks, then these extra tweeters would help to keep the stage wide??!!
no wot i mean??
ill have access to all of this in a couple of weeks, and will report on how it goes...
any suggestions??

seems to work quite well.

Hell yeah, the trickier the better, who ever truly wants to be "finished" with car audio?

Do you just split the "high" signal to two pairs of tweeters active, or are you using the behringer to split it for you??

not using the behringers for round 1
split the RCA before the amp, can adjust crossover settings on the amp if I choose to do that.

Sounds like round 2 may well be very interesting...
Im guessing the Behringers will give you the abilty to independantly set crossovers, level and TA? (dunno if your processor includes this function?) to fine tune each set of tweets before they even hit an amp.

for the ultimate tweakablity that will give you...

whoohoo man...
just picked up fudds old champion xt25's, (i believe these were his secret to succes, his angling and tuning skills had nothing to do with it

)
i now have the same tweeter in two seperate formats, one in its original glory as the large format wide dispersion model, and the other as POLK audio's smaller more refined model...
the original will sit in the kicks and the polk up high ambient,
though i promise i will experiment and see how the low down ambients work...
though i will only report on the polks as the mains and the vifas as the ambients, as i cant be faged changing the wiring too much...
i will try to get pics of my progress too...

hmm, won't running multiple tweets off the same Xover muck around with the impendence of the system and Xover points?
Shreknos
Mar 22 2007, 02:16 PM
im fully active now...
the vifas are nice, i dont think i will need ambients, as the stage is at dash level at the least, i may throw the polks in, but only if i need them...
