I'm after some comments/advice from the SQ gurus out there. Basically I have an opportunity to pick up an Alpine IVA-D100E multimedia HU, coupled with the PXA-H701 processor for a pretty tasty price. I'm in the process of building up a system aimed primarily at SQ, (the DVD capability is a bit of a bonus), and the HU is next on my shopping list (with sub and amp to follow). IMO the spec sheet for the IVA-D100E looks pretty solid when taking into account the added EQ and tuning the PXA-H701 offers.

However, does anyone out there have any first hand knowledge or know of anyone running this HU as an SQ unit? I have not had a chance to listen to this unit in person unfortunately...Any comments/advice welcome folks...

It'll work fine when coupled with the processor. Its pretty much the same as running a w200 or a d310e.

Whats the tasty price?? Secondhand or brand new?

that is a very good combo! money allowing i would probably get the same combo tho i have heard that the d310e internally is better than the d100e and produces better raw sq. that coupled with the 701 would be pretty hard to top

The tasty price is a significant saving, if I go for it, and most likely will, I'll be saving a grand without any dramas. It's brand new also.

Yeah but whats the price!!!!

I figure, the d100 is around the 1500 mark and the 701 is around the 899 mark. So, to me, a tasty price would be around 1800 - 2000 for the pair... ish...

the SQ will all be in the PXA, and not the D100E. that is, it's the PXA that matters here as this is what 'provides' the SQ. the D100E will act merely as a CD/DVD 'transport' and send out the audio signal via the digital output. this won't be the weak link.

using the digital input, the H701 is a great processor, and certainly of competition quality.
