Has anyone had any success with any solutions for AM/FM Radio in carputers?

Anyone tried hacking a radio and then using a usb/parallel/serial hardware interface to control it?
driftmilitia
there aren't many good quality solutions out there at the moment I'm afraid. The only thing available that gives high quality radio through the PC while on the move is the HQCT module here. I believe the end price will be very high though, due to the fact that it's in Europe and they have higher manufacturing costs.

Thats what i'm doing!
I'm looking for a hybrid (analog+digital) tv/FM tuner, which will be be good for FM while in motion, and can tune tv when stationary, pending on antenna reception.

Good luck in picking up FM while in motion...

Many ways have been tried but non have succeeded, great results when the car is stationary smile.gif

Either way let us know how you go???...

Currently using SiLabs FM USB module.
Ordered from Mouser in the USA.

Reception is OK.. not brilliant.. trying to get it better.
They have a new module which does AM reception as well, but Im not sure if its out yet.

shame about the reception of this unit.. cause its very close to being excellent, but just misses a little. sad.gif

Search www.mp3car.com in the hardware section for the 'Silabs USB FM' and you'll likely find my posts and others.

Has anyone tried the Griffin RadioShark in australia? What about the HQCT (http://store.mp3car.com/product_p/com-009.htm) in Australia?
Iceman_jkh
Heard mixed reports about the shark - the best being: its average/OK.
HQCT is pretty expensive and it doesnt have audio-over-USB sad.gif
Ive also heard mixed reports about the HQCT's reception.. mostly good, but still a lot of people having trouble.

Id happily pay for an expensive item as long as it DEFINITELY worked well, not 'probably'.

A while ago I applied for beta testing on mp3cars new one coming out. Havent released anything yet, but it is digital generated sound, so no dodgy rca jacking. It also uses the cars existing antenna can be embedded into a front end and get HD radio if you live in a capital city. Ill let everyone know if I get beta acceptance.
Iceman_jkh
definitely let us know how u go biggy.
Im subscirbed to that same mp3car thread.
Ive got a silabs FM usb device - im happy to lend it to you, so you can compare that to the BoomHD Radio (or whatever they ended up calling it) and we can find out once and for all whats the best radio unit. FM/AM is pretty much the only thing (besides boot up time) where normal headunits beat carpcs!

Interesting developments regarding AM/FM/RDS!!! :

MitchJS has hacked an AM/FM HD device:
http://www.rush2112.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.p...mp;p=2411#p2411

RR Support for this device:
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/road-runne...-some-more.html

Hopefully some people start using it and providing some feedback smile.gif

Interesting.... smile.gif

I wonder if we can get that in Australia? If so how much? (cheaper than the HQCT???)
