Full Version: Box Design for Old IDQ10

Hi guys,

I've picked up an old second hand Image Dynamics IDQ10 but I'm unable to find any information about it. Just wondering whether anybody has had any experience with these. It's an SVC model, I'm assuming 4ohm but there is no information written on it.

I have no specs for it and no idea what its power handling is like. Can anybody give me an idea of what size box (sealed, I'm guessing) I should build, and how much power it likes.

I have heard that these are nice sounding speakers, will be interesting to see whether it wipes the floor with my Boston Rally 10. I like the sound of the Boston, it just doesn't have enough output for my taste.

At the moment I only have 190WRMS on tap, but I have been meaning to upgrade.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The IDQ10 SVC model would be the older model. I think it's V1 or V2. The later models are all DVC.

Image Dynamics did have the specs for these drivers on their website under 'tech pages', however I'm having trouble accessing them now.

You should be able to find the specs with a little google-ing.

Just search for IDQ12 V1 smile.gif

26L gross sealed will see you pretty well with up to 200w, the knee is pretty high so it shouldn't need fill but that can be added later if needed.

Also looks good in 50L tuned to 25hz.

Muzzy, I've tried googling but haven't come up with much in the way of specs. Even asked on the ID forum but didn't get anything back. Will the specs be the same as the dvc models, apart from the obvious differences?

I think it must be the V1, it has the plain black raised logo on the cone.

What sort of power is it capable of handling, i.e. roughly how much power should I be looking at if I buy an amp to match?

They are rated for a tad bit less power then the newer V2 models and will work in similar boxes apparently. I have a IDQ15 V1, and it is rated up to 400rms but I have mine running off 800rms and haven't had any issues at all, it's all about setting your gains correctly. Actually I have mine in the biggest box recommended and I find it lacks bottom end so if I was you I would go bigger then recommended probably closer to 1cube sealed or 26 L's as volenti suggested.

Brilliant, I've already got a decent ~1cu.ft box so that saves me a lot of trouble.

Might be slightly bigger though, closer to 1.1cube. Will this be much of an issue?

Sounds good, though just for experimentation I would suggest making some .1cuft blocks you could add to the inside of the box to vary the volume and add some to see how it makes it sound till you get something that sounds good to you...

Thanks a lot for the advice guys, and thanks for the specs Hadamona - just what I was after.

Time to test this baby out.
