Hi everyone

just thought id post up, mainly cause im bored but i feel like i should.

Ive been a lurker for ages, pretty much since i got my first car, and have always been into cars, stereos, and computers, so i thought wat better way to mix them all together than a carpc.

this project started in its infant stage over 12months ago, when i was drinking with a few mates and thougth it would be a brilliant idea to put a computer into a car. they all thought i was nuts wacko.gif

this project has now started to really come about, i have the computer which i happened to get for free biggrin.gif its a
AMD athlon XP 2400+,
upto 768mb ram (depends on how much i can find, so far got 2x256mb sticks, but i reckon i got another few lying round the place),
ATI 9600LE graphics card (poor mans version, which means it uses not much power).
either a 250gig or 320gig IDE hard drive (still yet to buy)
belkin wireless card, with a omni directional +7dbi antenna, which i plan on mounting in a rubber antenna thing (so it doesnt look too out of place)
USB gps reciever, thinking at this stage a BU-353 off ebay
USB HDTV tuner, not sure which one yet, but needs to do radio aswell
8" ebay touch screen, which i already have, and is brilliant, very bright, sharp and good contrast, touch screen is also very accurate with the pen

and powering it all (well most of it, touchscreen off its own power supply) is a DSATX which i just order 10min ago yahoo.gif gotta love the exchange rate atm $256 for the dsatx with the rs232 adapter thingo delivered yahoo.gif

im looking at installing it all in my mid semester break which is in few weeks.

This is my car

im planning on using the roadrunner front end, but im still trying to decide wat gps software to use (any suggestions???)

as you can see i got most of the bits to get it working now, just need the PSU to arrive, and put it in my car.

i will update my rides thing later, when i have actually done something in my car, but untill then.....

Sounds like it's all coming together biggrin.gif

sounds a lot like me, decided to make a car pc and just went rummaging through all my boxes of old pc components and found enough to build a new pc laugh.gif

do the DSATX's survive engine start ups?
Iceman_jkh
Damn, nice exchange rate!

My DSATX does smile.gif (survive engine crank). I also have a deep cycle batt though.
Had DSTAX for over 6 months.. no dramas.
I have a fan on it to cool it (some of the hot days it would go into thermal protection), and since then NO PROBLEMS biggrin.gif
XF Falcon
Staggs and Iceman_jkh. If you dont mind me asking, where did you purchase your DSATX's from?

Im looking to purchase one for my in-car xbox install and finding it hard to find a distributer here in Australia.

Thanks!
Iceman_jkh
Got it from USA. http://short-circuit.com/details/detail.php?id=DSATX
