Full Version: Tuning a sub for an SQ comp

Hey guys,

I was able to get work off for tomorrow so I am now going to have a crack at the SQ side of things and enter in the WestCoast Sound Off SQ comp tomorrow smile.gif

Oh and before I get replies, yes I am aware of the following;

1. My gear is not Audiophile SQ gear, I know this but I enjoy the sound of my system.

2. I don't have a Fire Extinguisher, but I can live with losing 5 points out right tongue.gif

3. I also don't have Dynamat which I admit is noticeable (especially with my hollow doors) but I don't have the time nor can be bothered spending a descent amount of cash on getting it done right (as the car is a temporary point A to B car until I find a car that satisfies my needs and wants smile.gif)

Ok, back to the topic at hand!

I am quite happy with the transparency of my setup at the moment, particularly with the overall balance of mid bass and sub bass that I have setup. My question is aimed primarily at Alpine users (but anyone can comment), that being what are your sub settings and bass settings on your head unit and sub amp? And do you have any tuning techniques to fine tune your sub control?

I know it’s best to keep bass flat but I am not running any EQ's and so fourth, and I normally have the sub output on the headunit set to +15 (which looses a bit of balance, but the bass is enjoyable for my music liking).

I am about to go testing with different settings to find the best balance and to make the sub less noticeable, looking forward to everyone’s replies smile.gif

Cheers,

Jason.

Unfortuantly I don't Have TA to play with sad.gif

I have an older Chesky recording disc I am about to play with, but I am just playing around with sub control on the deck 'till i find the right balance smile.gif

Is anyone able to recommend some mainstream recordings that would be great to tune with (other then Chesky or hard to 'aquire' songs?)

Cheers
Riley.
you shouldnt hear any doof doof as such....its more of a presence....really an extension of your midbass
