I currently run a CDA-9835. I have 2-way fronts, rear speakers and a sub. My question is:

If i switch the HU from 2way to 3way (switch on the back of the deck) and i run my Fr tweeters as Highs, Fr Mids as Mids and Sub as Low can i still run my rear speakers or not?

At the moment my crossover gives me Sub, Rear and Front when i flick the switch it says i will have Low, Mids and Highs instead.

Anyone had a play round with this before?

Also i plan to run the rears off the HU if possible.

maybe look into a alpine h701 processor if you want 2way front, rear + sub.and a centre channel if you would like too.
mad89
yeh. i think in 3 way mode its just 2way active + sub...

as mentioned, if you hook up rear speakers to the rear ch of the HU, then theyll get the same BP crossovers from the 'mid' output if that makes sense.

i havent actually tried it, so this is what im guessing tongue.gif

Yes thats what i thought might be the case.

Well if i get a processor will i still have the same dramas? Does the HXA-701 have Front(high/mid) Rear (High/mid) And Low? or just High/mid/low?

I suppose bandpassing the rears wouldnt be too bad but the only problem being they will have the same slope/filter settings as the front mids. Which means i will get no highs from the back of the car.
....
You can run the processor as either

Front high, Front low, Rear, Sub

or...

Sub, Low, Mid, High

i would expect the 3way mode only to have bandpass mid channel , i would also think that when in 4way+sub(front+rear+sub) u only have HP filters for your fronts and rears and a Lpass for your sub...............cors

in 3-way mode, the rear speakerwire outputs still function, but as explained, are subject to the xover filters you apply to your front midwoofers. also, you lose 'fading'. so overall, not advised.

ok so if i get a processor i can run my Fr (mids and highs) Rear (full range or hp) and sub (low)? And will the processor still let me fade if i do that?

Cheers for the input!

How many RCA out does the processor have?
shiny_car
yes, fading/balance is retained. the H701 has 4 sets of preouts, together with 31-band EQ and time correction on all channels.

Cheers for the quick response hey smile.gif

So my 4 RCA outs from the processor could be Fr High, Fr Mid, Rear and Sub? (If i wanted to run my rears off an amp)

If yes, well i guess now the hunt begins to find me a processor.

Had a look at your install pics Shiny Car...... Damn Sexy!

I wish i could afford the processor you have smile.gif
I love F1 gear. One of my friends has the F1 3-ways.
mad89
processor would be the best bet, but the 9835 has no optical out sad.gif

u will need to use RCA for the audio signal, and/or Ai-Net? im not 100% sure myself...

tho i dont think RCA is recommended for it, anyone feel free to comment? smile.gif
shiny_car
the Ai-NET cable provides the audio signal connection between the HU and processor when there is no optical available. works fine.

mad89
^ ah fair enough.

however ai-net would be inferior quality compared to optical? or?

then from processor > amps, would be RCA correct?

smile.gif
shiny_car
yes, Ai-NET is analogue. so the signal passes through the DAC in the HU, down the cable to the processor, through the ADC in the processor and is then at the same stage of an optical signal sent directly to the processor.

same with the RCAs, but a bit more elegant using an Ai-NET cable.
