Can anyone here recommend any decent 2-channel amps to power some focal tn-52 tweeters????, preferably something better than an f-240 bridged out???

I believe focal amps work best with focal tweets

the older (pre-2000) Pioneer amps were a very 'laid back' almost warm sound, and would likely tame the TN52's quite ok.
IMO for extreme accuracy and clarity without too much hardness, Audison VRx or Focal FP would be the go.

focal...
the tn52's have a very bad impedance rise, causing distortion and harshness with most amps...
focal invented soft clipping for this...

Hi sven, I'm also pretty interested in this problem, as I have the focal 165v2's and a new pioneer HU that can go active if I wanted to. I also have a PPI A300 amp and a jaycar 4*100 at my disposal. I was originally going to run the focals passive off the PPI amp...but....
would it be worth running a 3 amp installation?
ie the PPI to run the tweets,
the jaycar to run the mids and rears
the sub running off its own mono.
this could mean a heap more installation shinanigans though, what do people think?

What is your budget?
I found that the most relaxed, smooth sounding amp I've used was a Vibe Backbox II. They retail somewhere around the $650 mark, are rated at 2x100, and have a pretty good set of adjustments.
Overall a very laid back sound that should do a good job of taming a set of harsher tweets.
If that's a bit too much, there is also a smaller model - Blackbox I - which from memory is around 2x50 or 2x75 (or thereabouts) and is a little cheaper.

500 at most id wanna fork out, as for functionality the only thing id need is the gain

So you dont need onboard crossovers? Old skool PPI Art series maybe ok if you can find one thats in good working order

Have you looked at some of the DLS amps, DLS are renown for building amps that can handle massive impedence swings and as shrek pointed out is the reason the Focals can tend to sound harsh on some amps. Two models come into your price range. The classic CA-23 $499 which is 2 x 135rms at 4 ohm and 13.8V, and the Reference RA-25 $549 2 x 70 rms @ 4 ohm and 13.8V. Anything in the Ultimate range is a fair way out of your budget, but interestingly alot of people prefer the sound of the Classic series compared to the Ultimate.
Of course the Audiosystem would also be a great option, I use two myself...

Here you go,
http://www.mobileelectronics.com.au/forums...showtopic=84150 I doubt you could get much better for the money, and it's got enough power to run your mids if you want...

Keep in mind the TN52 is 8 Ohm,
so whatever amp you get, half it's power, thats the actual power you will get.
the TN52 is rated at 150W RMS Max @ 8 ohm. (when filtered 3.5khz 12db)
I have run power arrangements from 40W RMS @ 8 ohm, to 250W RMS @ 8 ohm,
I found they sounded best when more than 100W @ 8 ohm was available (even thought they never got close to using it)
This may be due to the as said above heavy impedance rise, which ment that lower power amp arrangements would run into distortion quicker.
Unfortunatly these tweeters are very sensitive to poor amping, or a poor signal, you put distortion in, you get alot out.
If your having difficulty with harshness, if your running active, be careful not to run the tweeters under 3khz, suggest you run closer to 4khz. 12-24db
The tweeters are designed to run 3.5khz 12db - 3.8khz 18db.
You may find that alot of the harshness is not to do with the tweeters, since the problematic range is normally between 2 and 3khz, where the midrange is playing more, and the tweeter overlaps into.
