Looks like a combo of different companies speakers. The magnets are similar to the Focal subs and the basket looks...Dynaudio'ish?

That looks pretty spiffy, though the magnet arrangement isnt a Focal thing, as Phass had it long before they did. Supposedly quite effective though.
As far as specs go, this looks like a very impressive woofer. I mean, an Inductance of 1.3mH is around the 12" Aliante level. That is heaps quicker then an IDMAX or Vanadium too. Peak to peak is extremely large too.
Only problem I'd have would be the very low sensitivity. And whether that power rating was Max or RMS.

Ok, well I almost bought one of these, so know a fair bit about them, the driver itself is built by TC sounds, one of the biggest OEM manufacturers in the world, they actually make all the Eclipse subs. The sound is an issue that has affected a few of them but most where replaced free of charge. It is 1000rms, they do have issues with the cone buckling when overdriven, so if you really enjoy your bass there not for you. They have been compared to the Lotus SW300 which is considered to be one of the most transparent and tonally accurate subs you can buy. They actually play up to 1000hz flat, and are best suited to a .5cuft net size box.
My only reason for not getting one, it would have put me straight up into Pro class, that was my only reason, otherwise I would most likely have got one.

If your a Bass head this is what can happen,
Click to view attachmentOf course if your just happy with a nice balanced system with the occaisional extra bit of bass when you feel like it, it is a great sub.

The graph looks pretty nice.... better then the 12W6
Dont they ship it over here??
Luke352
Jun 21 2007, 12:09 PM
Yeah Npdang, is quite happy to ship it to Australia, though you are looking at $160 USD to ship it,and commercially available in Australia means able to be purchased from a retail shop in Australia. Yes it is probably one of the best measuring subs on the market, and apparently is the lowest measured distortion sub on the market, and can outperform subs many times it's price, of course you have to realise that at the low cost there will be the odd problem, buckled cones from abuse etc.. and some have had a very slight scraping noise which mind you can't be heard from the front of the vehicle.
Npdang, from the forum who is the designer used the Peerless XLS as one of his design influences, as a matter of interest Npdang actually uses a JL 12W7, for his own use.
Personally I think it is an absolute bargain, but just make sure you can except the fact that if you do overdrive it, there is risk of damage, and that some have had noise issues.

Whoa that shipping charges is stiff!! I'm guessing air freight?? Everybody chip in and buy one and see how it perform
Luke352
Jun 21 2007, 12:36 PM
Yeah that is USPS air mail 6-10 days, I think I got a quote for surface shipping 4-6 weeks but that was still around $100 USD which is better, but your waiting 4-6weeks, which is a long time for your sub to be bouncing around with risk of damage.

p.s. just got a knock at the door, my Ensolite from Raamaudio just arrived yay!!!

I think if you overpower any sub (even DD's, but thats with a bit more power

) will result in the cone buckling and so fourth.
Has anyone outside of Australia gone well in competitions with these subs?

I think I'll stick to my 33kx even if it is almost 3 times the price... :-P

W7 is nice, but look at the price...
Diyma is 100+100 shipping around 1/3~1/4 the price of a 12W7
Other subs I am looking at are 12W6v2, 12W7, Scansspeak 23W...
Lotus SW300 is discontinued, so its out.

Not discontinued as such, just the old model is, there is a new model that is due out very very soon to my knowledge, but you can still get hold of the old model from some places....
