Well the competition season for NSW is well and truely underway now with many people still contending for the lead and an invitation to the nationals held later this year. The fifth event of the 2007 NSW CAASQ Sound Quality Competition season is planned for the 28th July so you still have plenty of time to get your cars all sorted, tuned and improved for this upcoming round. After the Wollongong and co-SPL events we'll be returning to the familiar park away from all the shops.For those not in the know we do this for two reasons. The first is to bring the events focus back to its roots; car audio enthusiasts getting together to chat, listen, compare and compete. The second is that last year it was so successful that we had trouble fitting all the cars in our parking lot!

In addition to the sound off itself, we're also planning to make this an official audition day. This offers many of you the chance to audition many of the speakers we constantly talk about. Many people have commented that they cannot find cars with brand X,Y or Z in them so if you're in the market for some new speakers, this is the place to be. You can listen to your own music comfortable in the knowledge they speakers have all been installed correctly. We'll also be bringing cars equipped withDLS Nobelium, Morel Supremo / Piccolo components plus a few more little suprises.

Registration for the competition starts at 08:00 and judging begins at 10:00 sharp (AM/ST may start a little earlier. Entry fee is $35 for all classes. The planned order of events for the SQ side of the day are:

* Trophy presentation from round 4.
* Amateur Street Class
* Amateur Show Class
* Pro Street Class
* Pro Show Class
* Award presentations

As per usual, during the middle of the day there will be a BBQ with both food and drinks available but with a difference. The way we operate the BBQ is this; Fhrx Studios pays for the food and drink but we ask for a gold coin donation (or more) that we then forward to different charities. In the past we have supported everyone from the Guide Dog Association, the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children to Anglicare.

The important details are:
* When: Saturday 28th July, 2007
* Where: Burrawang Reach, opposite the intersection Henry Lawson Drive and River road, Revesby. The map below is marked with a small circle.
* Time: We get there around 07:00 to get undercover tables and a couple of BBQ’s etc. Anytime after that though is fine – finish is usually around 17:00-18:00. We do stay back to chat and mingle though.
* Cost: Entry to the sound off is usually $35. However there is also a $7 parking fee (national park) for the day. Food is free but seeing as we're buying the food and drinks and are not millionaires, feel free to donate soft drink cans.
* Security: Thieves and dishonest people are not welcome and for the ones amongst us thinking of coming down to steal something – we’ve been through it before and trust me; security is one aspect NOT overlooked (that is about all we ever say in writing).

Everyone is welcome! The thing to remember is the day is always a lot of fun so please come along, spend time with fellow audio enthusiasts and support our industry. It doesn't matter whether you have never attended, come along and meet everyone - most are quite friendly and don't bite. Judges are also more than happy to help you tune the car before the competition starts.

Sound quality competition judging discs are available for purchase from Audio Discs.com.au and the rules and leaderboard for the 2007 NSW CAASQ Sound Quality Competition can be found here.

We will have an RTA there on the day.

Snap on titanium dude, with CL6 cutting agent. You'll never have to replace a drill bit again. smile.gif

We will have the RTA here tomorrow just to get a few people familiar with it. That way we can all use it at the sound off... smile.gif

Yep, the RTA is an interesting and very handy tool, I definitely made some worthwhile improvements and now know where my stereo was "bouncing" off the charts!
crankin
A decent parametric eq and an rta meter are absolute necessities of an SQ sound system. Without them ironing out the flaws is near impossible. Besides they're great tools to play with and you can have hours of fun tuning your ride to get it sounding just right. Bring back the RTA readings I say

. smile.gif
MRVJ
i found a peice of software for PDA's which turns them into a RTA, a basic rta but still an rta...should help.....what is your opinions?

Unless you want to make some titanic sized crossovers chockers full of components in order to burn off excess energy as heat all over the frequency range. Haha!

On the subject of tuning; we've got four cars pretty much tuned up now including mine. It's still got some minute little issues to go but it's sounding the best it ever has thus far. For those of you who I generrally refer to as my tuning army (such as Muzzy & Frank); feel free to swing past sometime and give me your opinions. biggrin.gif

Mate I'd love to come and have a listen. I'll call you this week to arrange a time.

As far as starting an install on mine, i won't be doing any thing in the beemer. Got some plans to change cars again some time this year. Most likely I will be doing something in my next car, at this stage I'm just concentratin on my customers rides and buildin the business.

Talk to you soon mate

hey im curious about something?,m if i go interstate and compete there at this event , im still in the same class right??? and any points accrued go into your series???? am i right??
mad89
Yeah, you can come and still compete, but i dont think leaderboard points are transferable between states. I could be wrong though, try PMing Marc about it...

smile.gif
Louie
I believe the last time this was mentioned, it was that if you entered a comp in another state, the points went towards that state's leaderboard, so if you competed in 1 NSW event and the rest QLD, you would have points for both, not for just the one state.

On a side note, does this mean if you entered say in both QLD and NSW, you theoretically could take the title in both states in the same year?
mad89
LOL! ^^ Never thought about that, but it is definately quite possible.

Unless of course the events were held on the same day in all three states (VIC, NSW, and QLD), then obviously you wouldnt make all three tongue.gif

But if theyre a week apart, and youre the road tripping type person with plenty of time and money to burn, and you have a good system, then, hell yes it can be done tongue.gif biggrin.gif

Someone do it. Please. laugh.gif
MRVJ
I vote rick does it
