Hard to beat for the money, and makes things very easy when all you have to do is add a screen!

Thinking about buying this. Anyone able to comment on how well these systems work.

I can, I have a CarPC with the following specs:

2ghz Via c7 CPU (embedded in mobo, miniITX mobo with all the usual tricks)
1gb ram
Globalstat BU-353 GPS
160GB Laptop HDD
M2-ATX Powersupply (9-16v input) to run in a car
VoomPC 2 Case
Wireless USB adapter with 7dbi antenna
16x slim DVD-burner
===
Xenarc 700IDT on its way (touchscreen 7" indash)
===

The software side consists of:

Windows XP Pro SP2
Centrafuse (whatever their best version is) with Aussie maps, GPS works fine. Centrafuse IMO is the best front end for carPC's, pretty straight forward and user friendly, though it still needs quite alot of work done to it.

So as towards your question, with my current setup its more than capable of preforming all the tasks you would in a car, I.e. GPS, DVD, Music Video Playback. Can expand to offer alot more functionality in the future, i.e. OBDII reader for the car, multiple touchscreen, multiple monitors, whatever a computer can do.

I would argue that RoadRunner is actually the best. But Ive only had limited use with Centrafuse. RoadRunner is free however, so you can try it out first and see what you think. I havent used StreetDeck. It (streetdeck) doesnt have Aus maps, and it costs a packet. RR works well and costs $0 smile.gif

hey got rice .. im currently looking to buy and make my own car pc... and i was wondering where you got the mobo?, and the case from ?
Sorry for stealing topic
Brycestro
reza, as a not that carpc for sale in the for sale section of this site doesn't have a built in startup/shutdown controller on the power supply, so one would have to be added if you wanted the computer to automatically boot up with ignition and automatically shut itself down when the ignition is turned off.

Hey RezA,

Sorry about the late reply mate, hadnt checked this section is a while.

I got all my CarPC gear off US Ebay, check out this seller, his name is Howard, his website is: www.e-itx.com

His ebay username is the same as his website, he is an Excellet seller, i bought and paid for my items on the wednesday, he shipped them in a well packaged box and i recieved it on the friday (from the US no less) very good and super fast shipping.

There really arnt many specialists unless you go through VMS over here in Aus but there are pretty expensive, you can build it yourself with the parts you can get off Ebay US.

If you want, or need pictures of my current setup, just PM me and ill be happy to help you out

Cheers

www.staticice.com.au - search for the parts you want there. As has been said, US Ebay is also an excellent option for hard to track down bits and pieces at good prices. The Aussie dollar is hauling right now, so it's a good time.
