Someone has to start a reflection thread so I thought I'd get in and begin it.

Good day, nice weather and good catching up with you all. Thank you to all those who attended. I'll get the results to Marc and the photos off the camera up ASAP. biggrin.gif

Thanks for kicking off the reflections thread Marty. Despite an early start to get the Nobeliums in my car to demo today, and my car developing a nasty case of signal noise, I had another enjoyable day which may sound difficult to some, especially when your car audio doesn't want to play ball on competition day. sad.gif

Congrats to Daniel for a well deserved win today, the Supremos sounded mighty fine and it also keeps the leaderboard interesting, and thanks to everyone else who turned up to watch, listen and help out.

And finally, thanks to you Marty for taking the time out to fix whatever problem my car has developed. No doubt she'll be sorted by next round and I'll finally have my speaker upgrade completed. rolleyes.gif

I'll second that!

Nice weather (if a little chilly) and a nice, friendly day as always. Thanks again to everyone involved with the organising including the people who did the cooking, and the judges for taking the time to do what they do.

Boy do I know how that feels!

This was the first time I've competed with a pretty-much-finished install.

On that note this was my last competition for the year, and so I really wanted to go out with a bang. To be honest the results were a little dissapointing. Not how I wanted to close out my seaseon, but I know the car wasn't sounding as good as it could have and so I really can't make any excuses this time around.

There is no doubt that the top ranking guys more then earned their places, and full kudo's out to them for the effort and time they put in!

Now for the sad part...how to close out my competition season. To be honest, I won't really miss competing all that much because at the end of the day it's my own listening pleasure that I'm in this for - but what I will miss is just being involved whether it be competing, judging, helping out or even spectating. Every event has presented a great opportunity to get to know some of the other top people competing and on top of this the nature of the competition always gives an extra drive to get better. Plus, it's always good to get to hang out with other people who share the same obsession, because my family and friends think I'm insane!

When I do finish my uni semester this year I'll be straight back into the competition in some way... and if I'm not competing then I'll be happy to volunteer for a judging role or even just to help out with organising if possible...and if anyone ever needs tips or advice on anything you can always feel free to PM / MSN me anytime.

Now I will try to move my butt and get the pics I took up ASAP smile.gif

Awesome Day, as usual Marty threw on a well organised event, and with RTA in tow, and a few different speaker combos to audition, made it worthwhile to be from NSW.. (tongue.gif to VIC) smile.gif

All I can say is MOREL SUPREMOS FTW!!!!!!!!!

Those are the sweetest sounding splits I've ever heard, congrats to Daniel also, nice win mate.

Weather was perfect, all the regulars were in attendance, and the judging was very tough and consistant as usual, forcing everyone to keep on getting better, there really were some very nice sounding cars today, everyone has made significant improvements and competition is getting very very close.
Cant wait to see the leader board!!

Thanks to the girls for lunch, the 3 double sausage sandwiches I inhaled are proof it was very tasty.

All in all another enjoyable day, and again, I must re-iterate...

MOREL SUPREMOS FTW!!!!!! fukn awesome speakers..

Hey Marty I WANT SOME!!!.. will come see you soon..

Still Angry that my car was not there!

Great day, and thanks to the above fellas (esp Nathan) for some after comp socialising in a warmer place (even though the fire is a fake) with some good pizza.

Another great comp day (makes me rue missing the last two rounds), although I went significantly backwards in scoring, due to a fallen out RCA cable, and some poor TA by me. Don't worry, I keep my settings documented on the back of the score sheets, so I get a list of what works and what doesn't. So I can go back to my fine round 2 form.

Kudos to the judges, they managed to confirm everything I thought (unexpected surprises is bad).

Top day once again guys! good to see a strong turnout, and good sounding systems again. Danels's morel setup just sounded soo sweet on the day, was an obvious 1st place. I wish i could hear Muzzy's car at its full potential, he has some top gear in his ride, but there is always a few obvious hickups somewhere..

I've emailed Marc the leaderboard updates.
MRVJ
So Marty,

Did you find out what was causing the noise?

Can you post up the results here? So us lesser competitors can see our placing.
Riley.
and so that everyone else can see that you actually had a comp tongue.gif

there was no comp Riley. i turned up to the spot, and there was nobody there, except some dudes with cars, and some guys with clipboards wandering around....

and for some odd reason they had a table full of trophies unknw.gif

Thanks for all those who turned up and all those that competed. I had a great day and got a decent score which im fairly happy with on the run up to nationals. As always big thanks to Marty and all the judges, haiki? think its spelt from Cranking and for the girls on the BBQ

Another great day. It was a pleasure listening to all the competitors cars. Thank you to Marty as usual for organising the event and it was definately good to see an rta machine present as well some new products on the market.

Thanks also to Paul for having to put up with my strict judging methods all day.

Congrats to Daniel, Johno, Rick, Marty, Joel, Edmund and John(urjokn) for there placings.

Congrats also to Mark for a much improved sounding ride and all the competitors who attended and constantly give up their Saturdays and Sundays. Without you guys these events would not exist. We need more people like yourselves in this industry who actually give a damn and can be bothered to show up which really helps when trying to attract newcomers to the industry.

Where are all the show competitors (including my own customers)? Get your a*%es into gear and start attending.

Any ways good to see you all again and look forward to next round.

P.S thank you to the girls for the snags. clapping.gif

Did you find out what was causing the noise?

After spending quite a few hours on both Saturday night and Sunday morning, I've narrowed it down to the amplifier. Now to set out and fix it...

On another note; the write up and photos are now live. The write up is on our website while all photos can be found here. biggrin.gif

Oh, i just realised i never posted properly in this thread tongue.gif

Sorry data_mine, i must have lost track of time or something tongue.gif

Another great day, in terms of weather and competition. It was VERY close from the start, with me and Jono being the first 2 cars judged and coming out on top to begin with, with the same score of 111 (though down 2 points for me from last round unsure.gif ). The bugger beat me by ONE on countback. Next time wink.gif

Congrats to Daniel for the win. Those Morels are VERY nice. good.gif Also congrats to the other winners from the other classes wink.gif

Big thank you to Marty and the Fhrx crew, the judges, and the girls for cooking the BBQ.

Catch yas all next round wink.gif

As would I, as there is always something not quite right.

I can hear that relocating the tweeters completely changed their frequency response so I would have liked a chance to get the car on an RTA before competing... however realistically I can't use that as an excuse. Few competitiors have access to an RTA, and with my experience and knowledge I should be more then capable of getting my tuning down pat.

I'm still trying to work out what exactly is dragging the sub-bass back so much...I do know it has absolutely nothing to do with the crososver point being too high though, becuase I didn't have that problem at round one when I had the sub crossed at 80hz and no mid-bass drivers...and on top of this I know for a fact that two of the top three finishing cars had their subs crossed at 63hz and 80hz, respectively.

I know that my top end issues are tuning related, and my mid-bass issues are install related - but I have no idea what is causing the sub-bass issues. There were some suggestions of what it could be, as well as some thoughs of my own, so I'll have to onsider some of these possibilities.

Back at uni now though, so I have more important things to worry about.
Fhrx
I'm just stoked that Pete (as one of my chief testers) only found six things that need improving in my car. Usually it's fifty six... biggrin.gif:D:D

Love your work Pete. wink.gif
muzzy66
No worries !

I always feel a little bad about criticising other people's setups, but if someone insists on me having a listen and being as critical as possible, then that's exactly what I will do - and sometime I can be pretty bloody picky.

I've yet to hear a car that I wasn't able considerable flaws in, but I have to say they are getting better.

Anyone want's a critical analysis just give me 20 mins in a car on my own, with my own set of discs, a notepad and a pen and i'll be sure to find something wrong. For some reason, I always find I can pick things out better when judging on my own. Soemhow I just feel more comfortably knowing I can take as long as I need, and put all of my focus into what I'm listening to.

One thing I always try to do though is to take note of both sides of things. I won't only mark down what I think is a weak area, but I'll also take note of any particularly strong areas as well because sometimes it's just as important to know what not to change, as it is to know what to change.

I always try to draw little mini diagrams where I can as well to indicate how I percieved the stage and image to be. First of all it's easier to describe with an image then with words, and secondly I think it's easier for the system owner to comprehend.

One other critical thing, I think, is to have a pen and paper handy, and to take immediate notes of issues as soon as they are identified. It's so difficult sometimes to remember how a car sounded later, and writing down notes at the time of listening can not only help out the car owner, but also help you to remember how that system sounded and to recommend potential solutions.

awesome day again. was very happy with the judges and how things were run(top job as usual guys) the bread was fresh and the sausages were hot.

tight competition again. well Daniel with those stunning morel's whipped everyones taking a 9 point lead. 2nd and 3rd (my self and rick respectively) was determined by count back as we got equal scores.

Big ups to Nathan for opening his home to a few of us to watch a movie and eat that awesome wood fire pizza. can i have ur plasma? (i don't care if it wont fit into my entertainment cabinet)

muzzy66
Yeah, I pretty much had to pull my front seats out for him to fit in my car as well tongue.gif

I've definately found the problem with my car, and it's exactly what I predicted it would be. It's unlikely that it'll be fixed anytime too soon tho because it's going to need some installational re-work and i'm fresh outta time.

Either way good to see some nice cars out there. Marty's car was sounding good as always, and I was quite impressed with Rick's as well. Definately some great cars going around,

I can say that unless a miracle occurs I won't be at the finals this year, so i'm putting my faith into all of you guys is do us proud.

Keep up the good work, and kick some interstate butt for me smile.gif

Oh, and someone build a Dyn competition car, please!! That's right Marty, I'm looking at you!

Heard another one today, and I gotta say those speakers never fail to impress me.

Keen to know since, Mark hasn't gotten around to updating the board, at least with results we can do it in our heads.

And yeah Nathan is a big boy, had to put the passenger seat all the way back. Lucky no other passengers "It IS back!"
