Hi all,

I've always been fairly interested in car audio but I really don't have the time lately so I haven't been in touch of whats going.

Recently, I purchased a three channel amp made by Audison, model LRx3.1. Other components that are installed in the my car is Boston Pro60 fronts, 30 Band EQ by Phoenix Gold, Boston G2 12", stringer wiring and sound deadening on both front doors and boot area.

I am considering replacing my Boston Pro60 with Focal 165K2P as I am finding that the Boston are not to my liking anymore. The higher frequencies are to harsh and the mid-bass I found not strong enough anymore. Does anymore know the mounting depth of the Focals? are they thicker than the Bostons?

I was wondering what you guys think? Replacing my front with Focal, would that be a better move?

I am open to other comments and opinions, maybe I need to replace the sub as well.

Thanks in advance.

The 165K2P's have a mounting depth of 77mm. They're pretty damn chunky....

The Focal's tweeters are naturally quite harsh, but can be smoothed out a bit with some EQ, which I think you're definately covered in that area biggrin.gif They aren't very smooth and pretty in your face.

Personally, I love them and am having a pair installed in a couple of weeks time smile.gif I couldn't tell you how they compare to the Boston's though.....

I would think Pro 60s are "on-par" with K2Ps so you wouldn't get much benefit from changing over
You need to go higher and unfortunately with Focal there is a big gap between their K2P and Utopia Be's

Of course there is the K3P which is what I have atm but two 6" drivers could be a hassle to install and tune

You could look at the Focal KBE plus 100KP which gives you a 6-3-1 three way set

There are lots of brands out there
Rainbow Profi, Dynaudio, Hertz Mille - just to name a few to consider

Following on from powervan, I'd agree that the focal and bostons are quite "equal" (sorry for that use of word). I'm going to assume, you've done your research in the market and heard a wide array of products to come to the conclusion that the focal is what you want to settle with smile.gif goodluck.

Z6 are only $1499 RRP wink.gif

otherwise in that price bracket, try and have a listen to:

Rainbow
Morel

Dynaudio
Oz Audio
DLS

etc. etc.

+4 billion on the Morel Supremos, try and have a listen to a set if possible, IMO the sweetest sounding speakers I've ever heard... and that includes the Utopia Be's..

Also Anfernee

Before you ditch your Pros are you sure you can't improve the sound with the install? Have you tried different tweeter positions and mounting options? Are your doors sound deadend and service holes blocked off?

If you look around the forum there's a lot of info on install ideas such as mounting in the kicks etc

Just put up a new thread with advice about curing Focal speakers' tendency to harshness, take a look if you like laugh.gif

Sorry champ, as you know I was strongly leaning towards buying a set of Nobeliums provided they sounded fantastic in my car. Unfortunately it did not prove to be the case. Mid-bass is ordinary and as clear and as detailed as they are, the tweeters were far too bright and that was after turning them WAY down. Gains were set right, height, width and depth were all good, but the tweeter just didn't do it for me. Supremos are a far warmer, and more enjoyable speaker to listen to IMO.
