Different pin outs on ATX versus XBOX
Dogo
Both should work, the M2-ATX is more expensive and can supply higher wattage but the m1-ATX should be enough

To connect the ATX PSU to the xbox you need to buy or make an adaptor which changes the pinout and creates a 3v rail

Its easier if you have an older xbox ( version 1.0 - 1.5 ) because version 1.6 needs a slightly more complicated adaptor

yea i know ill have to make up a new lead but that will be fine.the main thing i was worried about was the power consumption. dogo you have a new pm. cheers guys

m1atx is enough.

Where have you guys been buying your M2-ATX's and other power supplies from in Australia? Or do you purchase them from the states and have them shipped over?

Im actually thinking of installing a DSATX. It might be overkill but it supplies more than enough amperage on the 5V line (which the xbox really needs) and combined with the sickmods 3.3VSB converter it will put out all the right voltages to my xbox. Id rather get a more powerful power supply and underwork it than get a lower rated one an push it to its limits all the time.

I tried a modified sine wave inverter and it was rubbish. Had it directly connected to the battery also, and it was so noisy (video and audio) that i gave it straight back to my mate. Are the "pure" sinewave ones that much better?

Heres the progress of my install so far...

didnt get a chance to read the mp3car post, but carful with rewiring the looms, there are about 4 different voltages in a computer and xbox. m1-atx will prolly do but why not just get the m2, not that much more.

dont use an inverter, thats just stupid. I havent found a place in aus that sells dc-dc psus yet, i got mine from US ebay about 2 years ago for 120$AUS delivered.

http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/ Sells dc-dc converters, however, the largest they sell is 80W, and rather expensive.

OR, this nifty site will really help: http://www.vastute.com/index.cgi?cart_id=5...p;pid=502010113

Thanks mate!

I actually found that site last night too. I've emailed them and they are getting some in on Friday and it will cost $161 all up to get it delievered to my front door. Not too bad, and its an Aussie distributor so if theres any hardware issues it should be easy to get it sorted out (hopefully).

I still have 2 units of M1-ATX for $60 each , without ATX cables but you can salvage one from an old PC power supply

Another local-ish ( NZ ) supplier is http://www.itx.co.nz/

Thats where I got these from

good to see aus.nz resellers, but they are a bit pricy.

Do you think $161 for a M2-ATX (including delivery to Perth) is a bit steep? Or should I just stop talking and buy it already.

It should be sufficient to power the XBOX shouldn't it, even though it only puts out about 8A on the 5V line.

Well im not sure, but if you compare the m2atx that I bought from america 18 months ago for $120 delivered, it is pricy. I would of thought they have gone down in price.

While were on the topic, my work sells these LINK
anyone see any problems using two of these, apart from getting the 3.3v?

On ebay at the moment there is an M2-ATX in a case for $240 with postage. Not bad really, considering the import cost. Having said that, I kind of backed down after reading extensively about the M2, it seems to have a couple of fundamental flaws, and if you go up on the limit of it, it will krap out. It seems to take a good deal of hardware with it when it goes. I was kind of thinking about the big OPUS one, while the USD is so favourable. It doesn't seem like it has nearly the problems of the other (price tag related, perhaps).

Well i bought the M2-ATX and the sickmods converter... its installed working fine in my xr6 turbo on the factory lcd screen

i'll do a writeup soon, as it may help a few people.
