Hello Everyone. Turn back now, this is mostly guff.

I am a long time browser to the mp3car forums, but find they are a bit adverse to any kind of new input, so have come in search of greener (or at the very least, more sociable!) pastures. I think it has already been elluded to herein that they have a problem with "people who don't search". What I have found here seems much (more Australian) friendlier.

Recently I have found it easy to believe that I am the only person in Aus that actually has these kind of carpc ambitions, so I was happy to find that there are other unstable systems in the country. Even more surprised to learn that one of them is right here near me, somewhere between the bauxite and the coal. I actually nearly ran into one of those Honda thingos the other day. Kind of has me wondering....

Anyway. For some time I have been working on this carpc thing. I am somewhere between design, manufacture and implementation. I have plenty of hardware lying around. I have been formulating the software for some time on a laptop, which is okay. So far. It is my intention to fork out (shortly I hope) for the touch screen and dc psu (I have the invertor thing covered, it just sucks, is all).

I have:

- sacrificial m-itx foxconn motherboard for the first round (a couple of others too, but less sacrificial).

- a whole lot of sacrificial hdds, ram, cards and crap.

- a remote control system

-GPS functionality (only on laptop so far) with sneaky nroute.

- Pentium processor

- wifi and bt cards

- 2gb appropriate ram - might start with 512 and work my way up.

- software to run it nice with touchscreen. Although all those american front ends are esame - bland.

- A 1977 XC Fairmont GXL, painted blue, with a (temporarily) broken power steering line (BIG spaces for such things, I could fit an internet cafe in the boot).

- The subs, splits. 6x9s and cabling.

I am fabricating the case, out of aluminium, sort of themed with the amps if I'm good enough (At the moment it is an old VCR!!!).

I need:

A PSU. I want the opus (durr). I have invertors. Too clunky.

A slot drive (external) for firewire to dash (the hole the radio was stolen from).

Dodgy ebay touchscreen.

A couple of amps.

MONEY for ^^

I would love to have the fusion brain, or some other relay input device, for the other cool stuff my car doesn't yet do. Anyone do something similar locally?

I'll be sure to post some pictures of it if it ever actually makes it into the car. In the mean time, I will endeavour to scan these pages and contribute if I am able (I have skills too, y'know?).

Thanks in advance for not crapping on my first post too much, even though it was just guff.

Note to self. Don't leave gaps between lines. I should have checked it first, sorry about that. nea.gif
