The idea iv got to install a IBM laptop permanently mounted in car for the observeation of engine/drivetrain/ABS/ ect ect ect settings & for me to adust were nessary , the lap top is almost new , any ideas ??
Fudd
can you get a docking station for it?

someone else had an idea to mount a docking station in the boot and have a screen up front and a keyboard and mouse etc handy, plug the lappy in the docking station and use it from up front.

laptops are pretty bulky in the car trying to work on them (well my monster is sad.gif )

Hey N5000, I reckon you should go with using an input into the Alpine screen and try and interface the touchscreen with the laptop. Not sure if that can be done.

If not mount it in the boot, hook it up to the screen either via the 15pin plug or that IBM might have and S-video out which may be easier and as Fudd says use a kb and mouse or load some specialised software that will give you single click access to anything you may need and use a rotary hand knob like they have in the high end Audi's/BMW's.

Hay fudd no a bad idea in the boot but then hard mount it in just for audio
grafic/eq ? possiblity ? cable into serial port-to screen rca's,or somthing else ?
I have two sets of rca's im not sure ?
Fudd
i probably wouldnt go specialised software as i have yet to be in a car that has had software other than standard microsoft kinda stuff that worked.

ill have a talk to you about it when we catch up

NS5000, what you meant to say is... you have an RCA camera in on one of the controllers in ADZ car.

I can't remember off of the top of my head but I think the IBM R51 has an S-video out, so you should be able to get an adapter but as far as touch screen goes, we can either get an overlay(Will suck) or a wireless keyboard.

You also need an OBDII cable for your ecu to hookup to the laptop/dock. I have the same idea with an old Dell laptop I have and a dock I am going to mount under the seat.. I already have a mini itx system in my car but it's only running at 800mhz so it's not very quick.. I have to get a new screen in the dash for it too.
